Rainy Day Back Up for a Wedding at the Alpenglow Stube at the Keystone Resort

rain.jpg

When you decide to have a mountain top gathering, it's a really good idea for you to hvae a rainy day back up for a wedding at the Alpenglow Stube at the Keystone Resort. In the summertime, it rains more often than it doesn't, and it's best to prepare and plan for strong winds, wet weather and colder than wanted temperatures. This couple married at a venue that guests took two gondolas to get to. We drive up. If it's rainy, it will be cold. Prepare guests by suggesting layers, or providing shawls or blankets. A welcome bag with trail mix, chocolate, portable oxygen, local maps and magazines, and a flashlight would be nice. Or, suggest guests download an app that will brighten up a dark gondola.

Ask us how we can help describe the feeling that these wedding venues at the Keystone Resort provide. We've been working at them for almost 20 years and have seen lots of events happen at each one over the years. We love the Ski Tip Lodge and the Keystone Ranch, and neither require a gondola for transportation. Oh, the choices you have to make. Let's talk soon, ok?

Please contact us to learn more about the table centerpieces you see here in the Alpenglow Stube. It's the smaller of the two rooms at the Outpost at North Peak. Timber Ridge is the much larger room with super tall ceilings. It's a completely different experience than the intimate scene at the stube.

In the image above, the couple makes a smart call to have the ceremony in front of the fire place. For a small crowd, this is perfectly fine, as your guests will be much more comfortable. You can always go out for photos once the rain has cleared. Go with the flow, and if nothing else, there's always the cake to end the day on a literal sweet note. Thanks for reading!

The day after the wedding and event rentals.

The-Day-After-the-Wedding-and-Event-Rentals..jpg

A lot of couples are decorating their weddings with a team of bridesmaids and family members, but sometimes forget to think about the day after the wedding and the event rentals. This is an easy one to overlook, however, on busy weekends, some venues have vendors remove all items from the reception room that night. Is that something you want your guests to be doing at 11 o'clock at night? It takes me about an hour to pack everything up and put it in the car. Then, another hour to drive and unpack. Or, if your venue is flexible, you can send some folks over the next morning to deal with boxes, glassware and leftover flowers.

My suggestion to you is to consider a wedding planner, and to make sure that they will return the next day to grab any items left behind. Not all wedding planners will offer this, as they won't always live in the vicinity of the wedding, and need to return home to tend to families. Ask us how we can help fill in the blanks when it comes to the details like this. It's not hard, but it will take time. We can help figure it out.

Ah, yes, a Labor day wedding weekend in the Colorado Rockies.  There may not be a more perfect weekend in the summer in the Colorado High Country. Typically, right about now the August monsoon moisture is usually drying up, the wildflowers are still vibrant and the aspen leaves are just starting to think about changing.  However, times aren't typical.  We went from 500+ inches of snow to drought conditions.  So, right now, the leaves are already starting to change, about two weeks ahead of schedule.

Regardless, the weather is always secondary to the event on hand.  And, that means, the party must go on.  Yes, rain, sun or snow, the Fall can bring unexpected, yet very brief bouts of weather.  The thunderstorms are getting less frequent, and there's always a chance of snow with the right mix of conditions.  But, on the other hand, you can still wear flip flops and feel the warm summer sun, and have the best of both worlds.  A warm (or, as warm as its gonna get) mountain environment, perfect for traveling long distances to a destination wedding in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  It's doable during the winter, just not as predictable as the summer months.

Once you've decided (and accepted) that not all things can be controlled and you're willing to being your adventure planning a wedding in the mountains, then you need to decide which area you want to spend time in.  Hands down, two of the most popular areas for Colorado is Breckenridge and the Summit County area.  Lots of couples choose wedding venues on the mountains themselves.  This is one of those stories.

Take Emily and Chris, who planned their  rustic mountain wedding at Keystone Resort's Timber Ridge Lodge.  Timber Ridge is located at the top of North Peak, accessible via two gondolas.  Guests load the first gondola at the River Run Village, then walk across the ski slope to a second gondola that traverses Dercum Mountain to North Peak.  Once at North Peak, guests will walk by the Alpenglow Stube, another event venue here, yet smaller.  Once guests enter Timber Ridge, they witness a spacious mountain lodge atmosphere with cathedral ceilings and a two-story fireplace.

Ceremonies at Timber Ridge have an outdoor wooden deck with magnificent views of the Ten Mile Range and Continental Divide.  Timber Ridge is a magical place to exchange your vows and celebrate with loved ones amidst the majestic Rocky Mountains.  You definitely feel small and are, somehow, just more lovable at altitude.  You can, literally, elevate your wedding experience above all the day-to-day stress and just enjoy a few precious moments with family and friends.

Emily and Chris kept things simple and minimal since the views are simply stunning.  Over from the Petal and Bean side of things, we provided a mismatched collection of mason jars and vases for the tables at the reception to keep with the rustic, vintage feel that Emily and Chris wanted.

Lining the aisle were simple wildflower clusters attached to each chair.  Paper Antler,  a husband and wife photography duo who state on their website that,

"We understand that every relationship is unique.  We also understand how much time and energy goes into planning a wedding.  So if you want photos that honestly and creatively reflect your personalities, as well as the details and hard work that you put into your day, you’re in good company.

Like a bad perm, choosing the wrong photographer can leave you feeling saddened and confused.  Unlike a bad perm, you have to live with your wedding photography for the next 60 or so years.  While we may cost a little more than our Great Clips counter-parts, it’s worth the investment.

Ask anyone with a bad perm."

The bride commented on their blog posting of this wedding, saying

"Thank you so much Jonny and Michelle. The pictures are everything we could have hoped for and so much more! Everyone who sees them falls in love with your photography. Thanks again. You are the best photographers in all the land."

Martini? Yes, please.  This is certainly one way to get the party started especially at 11,444 feet!  Please remember that if your guests are not used to the altitude  you want to educate them that up here 1 drink is like 2-3 at sea level.  Encourage guests to drink one glass of water per alcohol beverage.  If you add together dehydration from traveling, the dry mountain air, the hot sun and alcohol,  it can give you a headache and induce other altitude-related illnesses.  Please exercise caution when in the mountains, period.  Just be careful kids.  I can't say it enough.

And at the end of the night, after saying good bye to their guests,  Emily and Chris shared a quiet moment together in the gondola.  As wedding days go, they are over before you know it... a total whirl wind of events.  Lucky for them they'll have a lifetime together to relive all the memories from this night.

[ Video ] Downhill Mountain Biking, Horseback Riding and Golf: Summer Activities in Keystone, Colorado

Summit County is home to a few world-class ski areas, but did you know that the summertime is just as rocking, if not more than the winter?  It's a cliche, but it's so true.  You come for the winters and stay for the summers.  It's the absolute truth.  We're all mountain folks who love sliding down the hills on the white stuff.

It's a different experience to travel through the mountains on horseback, or on a mountain bike, so make some time to explore the hills in a different way.  You can also explore the various golf courses around the high country, and rumour has it that your balls go further because of the altitude.  Check out this video, and then let us know how we can help you plan your Colorado destination wedding.  We know all the Keystone Resort properties, and have been working with some of the same folks for almost two decades.

Some of the various Keystone properties we've worked at include the Mozart Deck, the Alpenglow Stube, Timber Ridge, the Ski Tip Lodge and Warren Station in River Run Village.  Numerous private properties and home dot the hillsides, so let us help you find your resources and vendors for the Keystone area.  No other vendors will know this area better than we do!

When you plan a wedding at Keystone, you'll talk to Alicia, so please let her know that you found them with our site.  They've also started a Keystone Weddings board on their Pinterest page too.  We have a venues board where you'll find Keystone venues too.  Thanks for watching and reading!

[VENUE] Warren Station in Keystone Resort's River Run Village in Keystone, Colorado

Just to the right in the image below is the Quaking Aspen Amphitheatre, located in the heart of the River Run Village at the Keystone Ski Resort.  Big parking lots (that are free) are just a short walk away from the Warren Station, an attractive option for a modern facility that's in the base village.

On the outside, there's an outside deck that guests can relax on, or you can choose to take photos next to the stream running next to the building.  There are some kid-friendly attractions in the base area that can keep the little ones occupied.  Or, you can even mix a mountain top ceremony on the Mozart deck, and then return to Warren Station for the reception.

Warren Station does not offer lodging, but there are several companies that offer private home rentals, some of which are off-the-beaten paths in quiet neighborhoods.  Or ask us how we can put you down in the center of the action!  Yep, a condo facing the River Run Village when a festival is happening sounds like some fun mountain wedding research.  Ask us how we can set you up with a condo to stay overnight, play in the morning and then continue with the wedding planning in the afternoon.
