Rainy Day Wedding at the Keystone Ranch

As with marriage and any relationship, there are more challenging days than others, but that didn't hold back the love in today's post, Katelyn + Jason: Colorado Mountain Wedding at the Keystone Ranch, with images courtesy of Susannah Storch Photography. The venue set up chairs, guests even had umbrellas, but there comes a time that the cold rain makes it uncomfortable to be outside. Well, if that's the case, make sure you all know when the cut off time will be, who will make the call, and don't hesitate. It takes time to reset the chairs, so you might as well get started sooner rather than later.

Colorado Mountain Wedding Planning

Some venues have on site managers, but they're not day of coordinators, so make sure you have secured a wedding planner, or a lead point bridesmaid and groomsmen that can communicate as the day unfolds. I recommend a planner or day of coordinator at the very least, to not overly stress your bridal party who could be distracted in numerous other ways. The day goes by really fast, and someone needs to be on the ball for making these kinds of calls. As you can see, the decision was made, and the party went off without a hitch. Smiles were had, love was shared and two people were married in the mountains. Rain or shine, the love must go on. Please contact us to learn more.

ALBUM STORY

Jason and Katelyn got married at Keystone Ranch in Summit County. Originally, they were going to get hitched at the Ski Tip Lodge (both are wedding venues operated by Keystone Resort), but due to some cold weather/scenery issues, Keystone Resorts did an AMAZING job relocating the wedding at the last minute. AMAZING! And although it rained on the wedding day (no outside first look or wedding ceremony), again, Keystone Resorts did an AMAZING job accommodating last minute changes.

The couple met through the bride's brother. He did not initially want his friend dating his sister, but once the bride and groom met, the brother could not stand in the way!

The couple relocated to San Diego, but held their wedding in Colorado, where they met and fell in love.

A Powder Day on Peak 6 at the Breckenridge Ski Resort [Video]

A-Powder-Day-on-Peak-6-at-the-Breckernidge-Ski-Resort-e1428967381831.jpg

Powder Skiing in Breckenridge

It's the last week of the ski season, so that means I'm looking back at one of my favorite clips from this past winter, A Powder Day on Peak 6 at the Breckenridge Ski Resort, a video by Stacy Sanchez. For now, we should all be happy for the snow that we got and the times we had on the mountain. But, we're definitely looking forward to next season already. There are so many lines just waiting for us to come back. There are many lifetimes of adventures at the world-class ski areas. And soon it will be hiking and biking season in the high hills.

Summer Weddings in the Colorado Mountains

Many say that you come for the winters and stay for the summers, and the cliche is true. The warmer, not-so-snowy months above 10,000 feet are downright glorious. Hot, sunny days, and afternoon thunderstorms are a welcome change to frigid winds and cold snow. Gardeners attempt to grow things in the few short weeks, and the tourists come back to explore all the mountains have to offer, besides skiing. One of those things includes having a wedding.

Bring the fam and invite the friends to join you for a few stellar days for a Breckenridge wedding adventure. There are no guarantees that it won't rain on your day, in fact, I'll be the first to tell you that it probably will rain. At some point. But, it usually blows out pretty quickly, so just have a back up plan and don't overthink it. Please contact us to learn more about how our team can help you save time and money with a custom wedding package that's right for you.

Keystone Resort Wedding

The wedding day starts off with a gondola ride so folks can be there for Carrie + Mike: Alpenglow Stube Wedding at the Keystone Ski Resort, images courtesy of Black Forest Photography. Once at the top of the mountain, the guests walk to the Keytop Overlook, for an outside ceremony with views of Mt. Baldy, Mt. Guyot, the Breckenridge Ski Resort, the Ten Mile Range and the Continental Divide. Guests may need supplemental oxygen at this point, because if the dramatic mountain ceremony doesn't take their breath away, the lack of oxygen at 11,000 feet just might. Just kidding! Actually, acute altitude sickness is a real thing. Please seek help immediately if someone in your party is experiencing difficulties breathing or doesn't feel right. Health and safety is priority #1.

Alpenglow Stube Reception Dinner

After dinner, and probably before, the guests might be consuming alcohol. I recommend matching one glass of water for every glass of wine, beer, or shot you consume. That, and some good food, and you're ready to party all night. The chefs at the Alpenglow Stube put on a tremendous dinner experience, and a nice touch to end the evening is to send guests home with a blanket, LED glow stick of some kind, as the gondolas are not illuminated. Most cell phones have lights too, so that's always an option.

Thanks for reading, and please contact us if you need help and aren't sure if a planner is needed (if you do, we know the best ones), as some couples just know what they want and don't need a lot of fuss. That's where we come in.

Keystone has a very special meaning to Carrie and Mike so they chose it to say their vows. It was a very special family affair with their children as their wedding party. Many tears of joy were shed. What a magnificent setting for a wonderful couple.

Keystone Weddings

A classic set of images await you in today's post about Elizabeth + Scott: Keystone Wedding at the Alpenglow Stube, courtesy of Erin L. Taylor Photography. You can sense the experience created by using the gondola twice, once to get to the overlook to be used in the ceremony, and then again to travel to the reception dinner location on North Peak. The Keystone Ski Resort is made up of three mountains, and has numerous venues and locations that are available for weddings.

Planning a Destination Wedding in Colorado

As longtime locals in Summit County, we absolutely understand the attraction of the ski resorts and their on-mountain facilities. Take into consideration that some outdoor locations can be an adventure, as it likes to rain during  the afternoon hours. And, with that rain comes lightning. Talk to venue managers about back up plans for outdoor ceremonies, and I'll be the first one to tell you that it will probably rain at some point during the day. Unless it's a downpour,  I say extend cocktail hour and have your outside ceremony. Otherwise, deal with it, have an indoor ceremony and then sneak outside for some peaks with the awesome clouds that come with those storms. Contact us to learn more.

Liz (originally from Colorado) and Scott, living in Austin, TX, chose to have their wedding in the gorgeous mountains of Colorado after attending a friends wedding here. They visited several ski resorts looking for the perfect place for their ceremony and reception, but in the WINTER, when it's crazy cold and snowy and leaving them only their imagination as to what it would look like in July. They chose Keystone Ski Resort, which with the jaw dropping views of 3 mountains (Dercum Mountain, North Peak, the Outback), a base of 9,280 feet in elevation and a summit of 12,408 feet, they truly picked the right place to give their Texas guests a taste of what Colorado is all about. Guests took their first gondola to the Keytop Overlook, where the ceremony was held to a backdrop of stellar mountain slope views and then took their 2nd gondola ride to the Alpenglow Stube on top of North Peak at 11,444 feet for a feast by award winning chefs of local ingredients that are found along the Rocky Mountains and to kick off the party.

Fitting right in with the Colorado vibe, Liz and Scott did not want to have a lot of waste and chose to do an eco friendly wedding. They used no paper during their wedding planning or wedding day, the guests received their seating/favors on little packets of herbs that were to be sprinkled on their salads, the table numbers were on potted herbs that were going to be taken home and used by guests of the bride and groom. Liz chose to buy a GORGEOUS repurposed wedding gown which she plans to resell, the bridesmaids and groomsmen wore their own dresses and shoes. The flowers were local DIY bouquets made by the bride, in the bridal bouquet she memorialized her father with a photo of him and tied her parents rings to it (her mother walked her down the aisle)  The Alpenglow Stube restaurant provided dinner, dessert and wedding cake, which was all out of this world!

Rainy Day Back Up for a Wedding at the Alpenglow Stube at the Keystone Resort

rain.jpg

When you decide to have a mountain top gathering, it's a really good idea for you to hvae a rainy day back up for a wedding at the Alpenglow Stube at the Keystone Resort. In the summertime, it rains more often than it doesn't, and it's best to prepare and plan for strong winds, wet weather and colder than wanted temperatures. This couple married at a venue that guests took two gondolas to get to. We drive up. If it's rainy, it will be cold. Prepare guests by suggesting layers, or providing shawls or blankets. A welcome bag with trail mix, chocolate, portable oxygen, local maps and magazines, and a flashlight would be nice. Or, suggest guests download an app that will brighten up a dark gondola.

Ask us how we can help describe the feeling that these wedding venues at the Keystone Resort provide. We've been working at them for almost 20 years and have seen lots of events happen at each one over the years. We love the Ski Tip Lodge and the Keystone Ranch, and neither require a gondola for transportation. Oh, the choices you have to make. Let's talk soon, ok?

Please contact us to learn more about the table centerpieces you see here in the Alpenglow Stube. It's the smaller of the two rooms at the Outpost at North Peak. Timber Ridge is the much larger room with super tall ceilings. It's a completely different experience than the intimate scene at the stube.

In the image above, the couple makes a smart call to have the ceremony in front of the fire place. For a small crowd, this is perfectly fine, as your guests will be much more comfortable. You can always go out for photos once the rain has cleared. Go with the flow, and if nothing else, there's always the cake to end the day on a literal sweet note. Thanks for reading!

{ Real Mountain Wedding } Claire + Rob at Keystone, Colorado

Weddings in the mountains are just a little bit different. And so are the couples. They want to be up high in the hills with panoramic views, the trees and folds in terrain creating pockets that are naturally romantic. In the winter, the landscape opens up to adventures involving gondolas, snow cats, snowmobiles, dogsleds, skis and snowboards.

On the scene to capture it all was Katie and Victor Girtman of Studio Kiva. These two Breckenridge locals are wedding photo specialists who will ski with you, raft with you, and follow you around the mountains to capture moments that are truly you. So, when you need someone to be on your side for mountain wedding adventure photos, then this is your team.

Q. What was your ceremony like? Why did you pick that location?

We'd always said if we got married we'd do it on top of a mountain, so that's what we did. We'd been to Breckenridge and Keystone for the previous 2 years and fell in love with the area. We picked keystone over Breckenridge because the non-skiers (parents) could access the mountain easier.
The ceremony was perfect. We used the snow cats to get to the top of the mountain, then it was an intimate ceremony with family and close friends.

Q. How was the decor for your reception put together? Who did what?
On the wedding day we had a meal at the Alpenglow Stube, which was perfect. We then had a big party when we got back to the UK for all our friends, and we continued the winter wedding theme for the party.

Q. Any funny or memorable moments from your wedding?
Rob still smiles when he hears a vehicle reversing beep, because the snow cat had a reverse beep as it would back up to get closer to me.

{ Real Mountain Wedding } Claire at Keystone, Colorado | Photo courtesy of Studio Kiva - www.studiokivawedding.com

Q. What would you do differently, looking back?
Would have arranged for some pictures earlier in the day, we were restricted to time by the snow cats, so by the time we got to pictures the sun had gone down.
[Editor's note: By the looks of the clouds in the photo above, it was just a grey day with low light, or intermittent sun. Either way, taking photos prior to the ceremony is a good idea, as you'll want to spend time with friends and family immediately after versus leaving your guests for an extended period.]

Q. Any “hindsight 20/20″ advice you have for couples?
Go with your dreams. Some of the family didn't agree with us going to a different country to get married, but we had our day the way we wanted it.

Q. What did you do to personalize your ceremony and / or reception?
We love our picture frame guest book. It's now hanging in our dining room, and makes us smile each time we look at it. Normal guest books get put on a shelf and never re-read.

October in the Rocky Mountains. Scenes from Fall in and around Breckenridge, Colorado.

Yes, it is October believe it or not.  I'm listening to spooky music to match all the Halloween decorations that I see everywhere already.  We love to visit family in Kansas City and go to the real deal, the warehouse district transformed into a myriad of haunted horrors, with a street party vibe.

But what made me look back at the summer was me going through all the photos.  All the photos  I'm trying to pull together to show you, tell you about, and to inspire the countless other brides, grooms, planners and family  members that will stumble upon this site in their quest to solve a wedding planning problem or issue, or maybe to just look up an idea that crossed their mind.

However you find us, I just want to tell you that we're a bonafide brick-and-mortar business, not just some wedding blog who advertises vendors, but doesn't actually work weddings, or actually work with said vendors.  We do it all.  That's how this blog came about.  From a local to you, let's solve problems, get inspired and plan the wedding of your dreams.  That's what we're here for.  No other online resource is here for you the way we are.  We are the local mountain experts.

Mt. Baldy is the mountain you've looked at a thousand times if you've ever skied at the Breckenridge Ski Resort.  Below is a rare, messy shop photo that I took in the midst of wedding prep earlier this week.  Out of the chaos comes beauty.

We are literally surrounded by nature as our barn / design studio lies in the heart of the historic downtown area of Breckenridge, on the bike path in between the gondola and the Gold Pan.  That's all you need to know and you'll find us.

This and other images of Main Street in Breckenridge have been picked up by the social media team (click here to see our tweets among many other tweets that'll have you waxin' your sticks tonight) at the Breckenridge Ski Area, even repinning stuff to their own wedding, or no, wait, it's love in the mountains I think.  Either way, they share our stuff from time to time.  Thanks team Breck!

Rubywood, Paragon Lodging - October in the Rocky Mountains. Scenes from Fall in and around Breckenridge, Colorado. | photo[stacysanchez]

We went back to Rubywood, acouple's favorite private home rental from Paragon Lodging, picked up a few rental items and then went for a hike up on Baldy Mountain.  Ask us how you can take your friends and family on hikes that are approriate, camera-friendly and will have them talking for years to come.  We know which hikes go into the woods and are shady with not many views, while others are easily driven up to, grandma-and-toddler-friendly hikes and / or walks.  We want to help make it fun.  We find new trails here every year, and we'd love to share our favorites with you!

The Breck Connect Gondola, The Breckenridge Ski Resort - October in the Rocky Mountains. Scenes from Fall in and around Breckenridge, Colorado. | photo[stacysanchez]

I've watched the leaves change colors here since 1996, and this gondola wasn't here when I first showed up in town.  I stayed at the Fireside Inn, and then camped out a few nights before landing a place in Blue River.  I taught skiing by day to kids, worked at the spa in the afternoon, and worked the door at a bar at night.  I was where I wanted to be.  And, for you, all that should matter is that you want to get married in the mountains.  And because of that, you will.  The numbers will fall into place (after long, mind-numbing nights of detail-oriented focus by the way), the right vendors will make their way into your plan, and the details will not work out the way you originally thought they would.  They will be better than you ever imagined.

The Warming Hut - October in the Rocky Mountains. Scenes from Fall in and around Breckenridge, Colorado. | photo[stacysanchez]

The couple we worked with earlier in September had a tent put up on the back deck at the Warming Hut, our neighbor to the north.  Please tell Stacey you saw this post and maybe she'll be extra sweet, which will be hard, she's super nice and they serve a nice bourbon slushy.  That was recommended via a fellow tweeter from the Vail Valley.  I'll tell you more about him at another time.

Main Street in Breckenridge, Colorado - October in the Rocky Mountains. Scenes from Fall in and around Breckenridge, Colorado. | photo[stacysanchez]

The image above got some retweet love from the ol' twitter feed from the ski area.  Thanks Breck.  We love ya.  Our sign is just beyond the thrift store sign and after a short walk through the garden, you'll find the barn, our basecamp for adventure wedding planning.

Smoke and other stuff in the air makes for fun photos sometimes, but I always wonder how things are going where the smoke is coming from.  It was a helluva start to fire season this year, and our hearts and thoughts are with those who are still rebuilding.

The image above and a few below are from the Arapahoe Basin.  The Black Mountain Lodge gets booked up pretty quickly, so ask us how to get it all dialed in once you've secure this location.  And if you want remote, mountain valley settings, we've got a few more in mind. Please contact us to learn more and start the dialogue regarding your custom special event.

The musicians and DJ get the sounds just right, moments before the ceremony, which happens at the top of nearby chairlift, the Black Mountain Express.  For wedding favors that are darn right practical for this type of alpine venue, we've seen other couples give out mini-lanterns for the end-of-the-night-good-luck-riding-that-chairlift exit, to a nice warm, fuzzy, fleece blanky, or the not-so-stylish-but-very-functional Elmer Fudd-type hat, while looking kinda dorky, keeps your ears very warm.

Oh, and did we tell that we did the flowers for the Procycling event that came through town this year, and last?

Here's a quick sneak peek of some of the other places we worked this past summer.  The image above is of the Keystone Ranch, just west of the ski area, with a nice private valley setting on the golf course.  And below, Vail's Donovan Pavillion.  We worked with a bride who blogged about her whole planning experience, and hope to have her and other brides share their stories as we share the best venues, vendors and planning resources for Breckenridge, Summit County and now, the Vail Valley.  Check back soon to learn more about how we'll be spending more time in Vail and Beaver Creek, touring venues, talking to vendors, and learning more about all the good stuff the valley has to offer.  Thanks for reading!
