Iceland Engagement Photography
Today's post is all about Svala + Johanh: Iceland Engagement Photography in Reykjavik with images courtesy of Sotiris Tsakanikas Photography. This Greece-based photographer describes this couple and their shoot in broken English, but hey, that's much better than we could write in Greek, so many thanks to Sotiris for sharing his images with our mountain wedding blog. We have dreamed of going to Iceland to explore the mountains, and this post only makes us want to go even more. This dramatic landscape is surreal and definitely belongs on this blog, as we are sure that a few of our couples have the same wanderlust for mountains around the world like we do. That's why you're seeing a series of posts of mountain weddings and mountain love from around the country and around the world.
Destination Mountain Engagements and Elopements
Breckenridge and Summit County are our specialty, but we hope you contact us if you like what you see here, because Sotiris would be happy to join you on any mountain adventures in Iceland, or Greece for that matter. After a brief email exchange, we discovered that he is based in a town that's nearby to where Dina's father is from. He fled his homeland many years ago, when it was a war torn area. We can understand his wanting to escape conflict and make a better life for his family in the United States, which he did. So, if you are dreaming of an engagement or elopement in Breck, or in the mountains of Greece, we know of a brilliant photographer who can take outstanding photos of you and your love. Please contact us for more information about destination elopements. Thanks for stopping by!
What took me to Reykjavik in the first place was of course ... Love ! Svala and Johanh are a young couple of Icelanders who had me shoot their engagement. Johanh, who has this composed air of regal austerity, is a bit camera shy at first, but it's an Nordic thing as I can tell; Icelanders will graciously allow you into their space, will be excellent hosts and fascinating conversationalists, but when it comes to posing, or standing in front of the camera they do not appear overly excited even if they are. Then Svala, with her milky white complexion and fairy-like, girly beauty approaches, whispering something to his ear, and everything changes; I guess it's no mystery that your woman's ways of making this world a milder place for you are phenomenal. They unwind, they embrace and I am sincerely at a loss for words because their intimacy reminds me of an arcadian ballad, the simple, innocent contentement one finds in fairytales of the North. Their gestures, spotless and effortless have me follow them around as they stroll, it's sort of like a gentle hunt.
Rainy Day Engagements
Today's post is all about Alisha + Jonathan: Rainy Day Engagement in North Carolina with images courtesy of Eleveneleven Films and Photography. I spent a summer in North Carolina and it has some wonderful hills and terrain that are worthy of this blog, which is why you're looking at this dramatic set of images. The contrast and muted colors are striking and invoke a certain emotion that's raw and powerful.
I liked how the couple wandered through the woods throughout the shoot. It reminded me of my wife and I as we wander through the trees in search of hidden spots and off-the-beaten path locations. Curiosity is definitely part of what keeps me going out exploring, and I'm lucky to have a partner with that same drive. It makes for fun exploring! If we would have had engagement photos (we didn't), this is what I would have gone for. Something super cool like these. I hope you like them as much as I did.

Alisha and Jonathan have been together for about six years, but their love burns brighter than ever, even in the POURING rain. These guys watched the the dark, rain clouds coming over the horizon, and still said "let's do it." Alisha and Jonathan climbed stumps and rocks and boulders, and trudged through the mud that surrounds Rattlesnake Lake without a complaint. These guys are used to exercise, because they actually met and fell in love in a gym. After repeatedly asking her out, Alisha finally said yes and they have been together ever since. Grab a warm drink and try not to get too cold watching these guys freeze by the lake!
Donovan Pavilion Wedding in Vail
Today's post is all about Megan + Andrew: Fall Mountain Wedding in Vail, Colorado with images courtesy of TMDexter Photography. The fall colors are in full effect right now, and if you are planning a fall wedding elopement, you can still have these kinds of photos on your big day. We're working with a couple right now, putting together an Independence Pass wedding for a family out of the Roaring Fork Valley and Aspen area. It's been a lot of fun seeing all the summer weddings, but there's just something about fall and the hillsides exploding with color. Wildflowers are just too small to see at a distance, unless you have big patches, in which case, they're spectacular. I've written posts before regarding wildflower hikes near Breck, so click here to check it out and make a plan for next summer.
Beaver Creek and Vail Weddings
We're also busy planning a winter wedding in the Beaver Creek area of the Vail Valley. It's quite the creative process to bring out each couple's personal style into an event that is unique to them. That's why this blog is here, to inspire you for your Colorado mountain wedding, and if you need help, we can put together some details that you don't need to waste time doing if you're spinning your wheels because you don't anything about the area. It also takes time to sort through all the various websites and screen vendors. We recommend only the people we think would do the best job for you. We know lots of vendors and venues, and if we have the answer to your problem, we're here to help you figure it out and create a custom wedding package that's everything you need and nothing you don't. Please contact us to learn more, and thanks for reading!
Andrew and I met while both in Los Angeles: he, having formerly pursued the acting life, and I, busy dancing professionally. Our mutual artistic friend thought we should meet because we were both on the way to New York City: Andrew for graduate school, and I for my dreams of dancing on the Great White Way. We met on Andrew’s last day in LA at his going away party and clicked immediately. Not only were we coming from the same place and going to the same place, but we had also been attending the same mega-church for months! We definitely caught each other’s attention, and that was only the beginning... Nine months later…our engagement story took place in Washington D.C., where Andrew and I had gone for the weekend after nine months of dating in New York. When we first got out of the car, we came to a fountain where I made a secret wish that we would get engaged. He had planned a romantic day to commemorate our milestone: lunch on the harbor, kayaking on the river, and the fourth of July fireworks! After the fireworks, we arrived back at the hotel where champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries were waiting. I thought the special treatment was in celebration of our nine month occasion, but, before I knew it, he was on his knee telling me he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. It was a dream—and a wish—come true!
I had always wanted an outdoor fall wedding in Colorado with the beautiful colors of the aspen trees turning. Since we had begun our romance in October and met for our first date by the pumpkins, I knew that I wanted to incorporate that into our theme. We arranged our wedding to be in the fall in the Rocky Mountains, and it could not have been more gorgeous! I decided to use individual mini pumpkins for each place setting and purchased a load of them, spray painting the tops gold to match our colors. As part of the centerpieces for our seven guest tables, I designed seven picture descriptions to match the different destinations from our love story: LA, New York, etc. As guests were assigned to seating at their respective cities (tables), they had a chance to see a picture of us in that specific place with words about how it played into our story as a couple. We also spent time designing our invitations and programs and cake to feature the aspen leaf, and the guest book, pen, and ring pillow I found tied into our theme of leaves and fall colors as well. Our cake had the letters A & M written in fondant to make a special stamp with our initials. Not only did everyone love the aesthetic design of our cake, but we chose a fall flavor of “Pumpkin Cardamom Cake with Caramel and Cream Cheese Frosting” that was enjoyed by all. Many were also touched by a slideshow that Andrew put together with the photos from our courtship that was played during at the end of the toasts. Finally, as finishing favor for our guests, I had assembled packages of s’more ingredients for “S’more love from the bride and groom” to take with them. Personalizing our wedding took some extra thought and time, but it was definitely worth the effort to make it our own—and all the more special.
My favorite part of the wedding was standing at the altar between the golden aspens and having the peace that we had finally arrived at our wedding day. As we stood, hand in hand, the pastor delivered his message and the sun streamed through the trees, perfectly shining God’s glory and illuminating the joy in our hearts to be together forever.

Colorado Lake Photo Shoot
Today's post is all about Crystal + Javier: Styled Couple Shoot at Carter Lake, Colorado with images courtesy of Sarah Porter Photography. Winter lasts so long that when summer is here, it's wise to take advantage of the mountain lakes and streams for recreation and relaxation whenever possible. Even better if you can time it right to plan a photo session at one of the many bodies of water available in the Rocky Mountains. Take a guided tour with a fly fisherman, put on some waders and have a shoot that way. Or, hop on your mountain bikes for an engagement shoot. Sky's the limit and we're here to help.
Engagement, Elopements and Destination Weddings
Please contact us to learn more about setting up a custom wedding package with the photographer found in this blog, or others on this site. We accept submissions of high altitude nuptials and Colorado mountain love, but we love showing other fun areas that are inspiring and creative. We've helped couples plan snowy engagement shoots, dog sledding elopements and destination weddings for smaller groups. If you think you need a full-service to work out some ongoing details, we can recommend the best in the business. Otherwise, we find that a lot of our clients don't need that kind of assistance. We can help you a little, or a lot, and we should set up an initial call to discuss the best way for us to help you. Thanks for stopping by our blog!
There is something incredibly freeing about creating photographs for yourself. There is a certain amount of pressure that is lifted from your shoulders when you know that you don’t have to perform on a certain level. However, there is a different kind of self-imposed pressure to hustle a little harder and break from what is comfortable. Crystal and Javier stepped in the last minute when my original couple had to change their plans unexpectedly. They were an incredibly easy couple to photograph and we had a superb afternoon. These two are comfortable around each other: there is nothing stiff or forced about their relationship. Love and grace is evident in Crystal and Javier’s lives. This shoot ended up having special meaning for them, it commemorated there one year anniversary of being together as a couple.
