Canadian Rocky Mountain Wedding
For today's post, we head up north to share Jessica + Chris: Rocky Mountain Wedding at the Sawridge Inn, Alberta with images courtesy of Milton Photography. If you follow the spine of the Rockies north, it leads up into Canada, and the location for today's feature. Jasper sits at the top of a classic area, the Icefields Parkway, and would make for an epic road trip. Bonus points if you do it on touring bikes. I was lucky enough to drive up that road and then head west towards the coast, where I put my truck on a ferry headed to Alaska. But, that story is for another blog. Let's get back to the event on hand, nestled in the most majestic chain of mountains I've ever seen.
Destination Mountain Weddings
If you've found this blog, you're probably researching planning a destination wedding in Breckenridge, or one of the other mountain towns of Summit County. This location in Canada looks amazing, but if you can't make it up that way, perhaps an elopement to Colorado is all you really need. Right now, couples are contacting us and planning their winter getaway. Some are taking steps to finalize their summer wedding at a private rental home. Options are endless. We are, however, aware that all of this takes time, and so we've created custom wedding packages that help you save time and money. Contact us to learn more!
A year before the wedding Garry (Jessica’s Dad) and I spoke about destination weddings and what made them so great was that the family that hadn’t met yet get an opportunity to get to know each other at a resort for a week instead of a 1 day wedding and a “nice to meet you… see you at the reunion”. Jess and I really wanted to have that but in a place we love so much.We invited people to come to Jasper and camp leading up to the wedding. We had 50 people join us at Whistlers campground and we had drinks, played games, went biking, hiking and just really got to know each other. Almost everything we had for decor was either made by us, family or purchased second hand from a previous wedding. We decorated everything ourselves.Overlooking the the mountains behind us at the Maligne Lookout in Jasper on a nice sunny day surrounded by our family and friends. Our good friend Jessica Marsh singing and playing songs for us to walk down the aisle to. Our dogs walking down the aisle by family. I remember taking small moments to breathe and take it all in and just be content being in the Mountains and with her in front of me.All of our hard work into the set-up and decor came together and looked amazing. Music is a huge part of our lives so we wanted to bring that into everything we could. We asked our friends Pete and Denise from 100 Mile House to play our first dances. They learned a few songs we has requested (even an acoustic version of Daft Punk Get Lucky to lead into the dance part of the night) It was really something that they agreed to come and play. THEN, to have JP Hoe surprise us on top of that and play 4 songs of his own was just unbelievable… We had daydreamed about something like that happening… but when does an artist come and play a wedding? Really! Thanks to Jessica’s sister Carly who set up the surprise and my brother Blake for the last minute change to the have him play during the slideshow. It meant so much to us.Of course we’re bias but we feel that there are a lot of unique things about the reception. From the format of the night (slideshow at the very start) to the music, the food, the decor. We’ve heard from so many people afterwards how great the food was and how they had so much fun. Maybe it was just me but you could really feel the love in the room. We spent a lot of time (Jessica and I) designing the look of the wedding. We wanted it to be unique to us and we also wanted it to be things we did on our own.It turns out our favourite part of the day is the same! The anticipation and the final walking down the aisle / waiting for each other. Watching her walk down the aisle and watching me at the end of the aisle waiting with all of our friends and family surrounding us. All of the guests around us. The weather was perfect and the setting was incredible. It all came together perfectly and we both remember just feeling so content in those moments.

Beaver Creek, Colorado Wedding
The mountain town of Avon is the location for today's post, Ashley + Brett: Colorado Mountain Wedding at the Beaver Creek Lodge, with images courtesy of Urban Safari Photography, Ltd. There are a few towns in the Vail Valley, Vail being the most obvious, but Avon is the town that might be better known as the home of the Beaver Creek Ski Area, a Vail Resorts property. There are a few ski clubs tucked in on the mountain that host weddings, but this venue was located at the base of the ski area. And, for the majority of your guests who have never visited a ski area, Beaver Creek is a high-end experience that puts on a pretty good show during the summer too.
Elope or Plan a Destination Wedding in the Vail Valley
Planning a wedding in these smaller mountain towns isn't easy, so if you'd like some help, then you should check out our custom wedding packages that help you elope to Colorado in the winter, or can go full-service, matching you with a planner and day of coordinator, if requested. You can spend time surfing the web for all of these vendors, or you can work with longtime locals in the Colorado Rockies that have over 1,000 weddings and 20 years of experience. That's why we built this blog, to help you save time and money, while showing off all the fun places in and around the Breckenridge area. Please contact us to learn more about how we can help you. Thanks for reading!
Ashley + Brett were married in Avon, Colorado, at the Beaver Creek Lodge this past September. They started their day getting ready in two spacious suites at the lodge. Ashley and her girls sipped on champagne while the Oklahoma football game played on in the background (Ashley is a huge Sooners fan).
Brett, meanwhile, spent the day with his groomsmen playing golf and gifted them classy watches as their groomsmen gifts. Once everyone was ready to roll, we headed up the ski lift to do the first look at the top of a mountain amidst a sparkling grove of aspen trees.
The ceremony, officiated by Big Ed Culver, a very close + dear family friend, took place at a bridge (which doubles as a ski bridge in the winter, which Ashley and Brett thought was a neat tie into their personalities as they are both big skiers) at the base of the mountain on the Beaver Creek Lodge property.
Hanging lanterns dazzled overhead the guests (who were also greeted with champagne and wine) and baby’s breath lined the monogrammed burlap aisle. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect; just a touch of clouds that provided for soft, diffused light.Guests then headed to the cocktail reception, which was followed by a smores bar near the open fire pit on the patio of the Beaver Creek Lodge.
Ashley and Brett went for a soft pink theme for their table décor, accented by hydrangeas, Kiera blush garden roses and more baby’s breath. Small tea light candles lined the tables. The Beaver Creek Lodge, known for its modern art gallery in its building, was transformed with silver drapery. For their reception entertainment, the bride and groom chose a favorite local band, the Foxfield Four to rock out for the guests. At one point, Ashley even took over for their drummer for a portion of a song.

Estes Park, Colorado Wedding Photography
Today's photos are of Natalie + Chris: Colorado Wedding at the Black Canyon Inn, with images courtesy of Mollie Tobias Photography. We are working on adding a select group of mountain towns outside of Summit County and the Vail Valley, as they too need help exposing all the options available. I recently became aware of a network of vendors in the Roaring Fork Valley / Glenwood Springs area that focus on weddings near the Colorado River. Send us a message if you need assistance in that area. We love connecting qualified venues and vendors with couples needing help.
Rocky Mountain Wedding Venues
Brides and grooms from the front range looking to find a location in Estes Park might consider this location. There are a few others in the area, but most mountain venues book up quickly. If you need help finding an all-inclusive package for your wedding, elopement or vow renewal, please contact us to learn more. Thanks!
When they first met Chris lived in North Carolina and Natalie had lived in Texas her whole life.
When Chris moved to Virginia, Natalie moved to Virginia as well so that they could get engaged and be married – and eventually Chris did get around to popping the question.
While they were planning the wedding they realized that they had friends and family in Texas, North Carolina, Virginia, and Alaska. So they did the only reasonable thing and got married in Colorado.
I, for one, am glad that they did. The Black Canyon Inn and Twin Owls Steakhouse was the perfect backdrop for their Fall destination wedding. Natalie put a lot of time and effort into the details of her wedding - from the mini chapsticks for guests who weren't accustomed to the dry mountain air to coffee, tea, and hot cocoa favors. Her creativity was rounded out by a great team of vendors who gave her exactly the wedding she had dreamed of.

California Outdoor Wedding
We're big fans of California, and that's the location of this guest feature of Michelle + Alex: California Wedding at Thousand Pines, with images courtesy of Becca Liz Photography. She wrote on her blog that "You could tell how they have touched other people’s lives just by talking to their wedding guests…each and every one of them had great stories and beautiful things to say about them." Congratulations to this couple as we wish them a happy married life. Perhaps they will want a mountain top vow renewal in 50 years!
