Adventure Travel and Destination Wedding Inspiration

Today's post is about Maja + Patrick: Iceland Wedding in Harjumaa, with  images courtesy of M&J Studios. This is a continuation of M&J Studios submissions via Two Bright Lights that had me day dreaming about wandering the beaches of Iceland. Please click here to see another set of dramatic photos from this beautiful land. Mountain people are pretty much done with winter about now, but are still stuck with a few more weeks of snow and graupel while the temps get higher and the rivers fill with snowmelt. Lots of the mountain tribes migrate west to Moab, Glen Canyon / Lake Powell or Zion. You might've heard of Bryce Canyon, and those places are right around six hours (maybe a little more for some of these) of driving away from Breckenridge. So, it's actually plausible to think of a mountain wedding in Colorado and then escape to the desert for a honeymoon. Ask us about where we've been and we can steer you in the right place to explore and enjoy.

Waterfalls, Beaches and Icebergs

The icebergs on the beach and terrain in this blog reminded me of some time I spent on a NOLS course in Patagonia, wandering the beaches near the Campo del Hielo Sur, or southern ice field. We paddled away from the glacier we were dropped near, and ice bergs calved from the main sheet of ice drifted with the ebb and flow of the tide through the Chilean archipelago. Iceland looks intriguing and I even know of a college buddy who rode his fat bike through Iceland recently. Whatever mountains you choose, we hope you have a wonderful day full of love. If you're considering an adventure in the Breckenridge area and don't know where to start, please contact us to learn more how we can help you plan an elopement, wedding or vow renewal in our mountainous terrain. There are no ice bergs, but we do have waterfalls and beaches. Kind of, on the beach part. At a few lakes anyway. Thanks for reading!

First thing what comes up in my mind when thinking about Maja and Patrick are they were just so brave! Iceland is a magical natural wonder out of this world, it can take your breath away in every corner but will put you in a test as well. We agreed right away if in case it’s rainy and too windy we will keep the second day as a back-up. The wedding day was so fiercely windy, like nothing I have felt before and when looking back to those photos I truly think Maja and Patrick are one of the bravest couples I’ve ever had. We really fought with the weather, my lenses were constantly full of black sand and it was hard to move on the beach. But, it was so rewarding to see the most happy faces when we ended up on the iceberg fields so called “ice lagoon” in the end of our first day.We drove more than 800km in two days in southern part of Iceland.

After every corner the veil of dreams was lifted and we thought this is the mother of core beauty of all. Raw, clean, pure, you feel so small in it that it must be one of the most magical places to get married on earth. Mostly we were just improvising, exploring new places and places I’ve been before, not in a hurry, just enjoying it all despite the weather. Memorable days to remember forever. I’m so happy that I was able to be there with you, Maja and Patrick.Words from the couple:“We fell in love with Iceland for its romantic melancholy scenery – and its neutrality: with our families being spread all over the world (in China, Germany and the UK) it was impossible to include everybody, so a private wedding followed by receptions seemed the fairest way. Plus, this way we got to follow the wedding with the honeymoon right away!

Iceland turned out to be the perfect destination – so much more breathtaking in person, every turn of the road brought us to new, spectacular views. In fact we were so enamoured we drove 800km over the two wedding days ever in search of new vistas (which Mait so beautifully captured!) and we already can’t wait to go back.”

We did have a lovely florist, who was recommended to us by our lovely AirBnb hosts - she was so friendly and enthusiastic, I e-mailed her a photo of the dress and she made the bouquet to match, and made a hair clip and boutonniere as a gift.

My shoes (both the heels and the booties) were Vivienne Westwood x Melissa. The vintage coat was from my mother in law. Patrick's whole outfit (not that anyone ever cares about the poor groom haha) was Hugo Boss with shoes from Ted Baker. And we chose Iceland because we just loved the unearthly, dramatic landscapes, and because being multi-racial, our families are spread all over the globe... and we decided to have the wedding private, with local receptions to follow as a way to not exclude anyone.

Diane + Joe in Aspen, Colorado Wedding

Diane + Joe in Aspen, Colorado | Image: Timothy Faust Photography Just a short drive away from the Vail Valley and Summit Count is the Roaring Fork Valley and the mountain towns there, including the setting for Diane + Joe in Aspen, Colorado, with images courtesy of Timothy Faust Photography. We get some fun submissions, and so we break the rules and share photos from interesting mountain locations and intimate settings that won't make other publications. We know that mountain girls and Colorado-lovin' couples like to visit the popular mountain towns like Breckenridge and Vail, but are open to exploring the possibilities when planning a destination wedding in the Rockies.

We've seen Tim at quite a few events over the last few years, so we're happy to share some images from a local Breckenridge photographer. Please contact us to learn how we can create a package with Tim and other vendors that we recommend. Here's what Tim had to say about this couple on his blog:

They picked Basalt for their wedding location. Basalt is located near the intersection of some of their favorite rivers, the Roaring Fork, the Frying Pan, and the Crystal, between the towns of Carbondale and Aspen, Colorado.

My favorite thing about their wedding was how laid back and fun everything was, while still maintaining an incredible attention to detail. It must be the organizational skills that all teachers must have. I also loved that they decided to do a little fishing together before their ceremony.

Two high school teachers from Denver, Colorado, who spend summers running a fly fishing business in Estes Park held their summer wedding just outside Aspen, Colorado.
