Iceland Engagement Photography

Today's post is all about Svala + Johanh: Iceland Engagement Photography in Reykjavik with images courtesy of Sotiris Tsakanikas Photography. This Greece-based photographer describes this couple and their shoot in broken English, but hey, that's much better than we could write in Greek, so many thanks to Sotiris for sharing his images with our mountain wedding blog. We have dreamed of going to Iceland to explore the mountains, and this post only makes us want to go even more. This dramatic landscape is surreal and definitely belongs on this blog, as we are sure that a few of our couples have the same wanderlust for mountains around the world like we do. That's why you're seeing a series of posts of mountain weddings and mountain love from around the country and around the world.

Destination Mountain Engagements and Elopements

Breckenridge and Summit County are our specialty, but we hope you contact us if you like what you see here, because Sotiris would be happy to join you on any mountain adventures in Iceland, or Greece for that matter. After a brief email exchange, we discovered that he is based in a town that's nearby to where Dina's father is from. He fled his homeland many years ago, when it was a war torn area. We can understand his wanting to escape conflict and make a better life for his family in the United States, which he did. So, if you are dreaming of an engagement or elopement in Breck, or in the mountains of Greece, we know of a brilliant photographer who can take outstanding photos of you and your love. Please contact us for more information about destination elopements. Thanks for stopping by!

What took me to Reykjavik in the first place was of course ... Love ! Svala and Johanh are a young couple of Icelanders who had me shoot their engagement. Johanh, who has this composed air of regal austerity, is a bit camera shy at first, but it's an Nordic thing as I can tell; Icelanders will graciously allow you into their space, will be excellent hosts and fascinating conversationalists, but when it comes to posing, or standing in front of the camera they do not appear overly excited even if they are. Then Svala, with her milky white complexion and fairy-like, girly beauty approaches, whispering something to his ear, and everything changes; I guess it's no mystery that your woman's ways of making this world a milder place for you are phenomenal. They unwind, they embrace and I am sincerely at a loss for words because their intimacy reminds me of an arcadian ballad, the simple, innocent contentement one finds in fairytales of the North. Their gestures, spotless and effortless have me follow them around as they stroll, it's sort of like a gentle hunt.

A true love story, Matt and Lindsey met back in 2011 at a football game for the first time and started dating shortly after. 3 years later Matt proposed to the girl of his dreams at a Christmas tree farm just 3 days before Christmas, and she said yes! Their wedding was at the beautiful rustic New England farm venue, Salem Cross Inn, in West Brookfield, MA, and the weather was perfect. They had met us at a previous wedding we had shot at the same venue and knew they wanted us to photograph theirs. We shot a mix of film and digital to help tell the story of their day and we couldn't be more excited to show this wedding off.

Steamboat Springs, Colorado Wedding

Today's post is all about Natalie + Sean: Colorado Elopement in Steamboat Springs with images courtesy of Kari Geha Photography. We apologize for the delay in postings. Technical difficulties were incurred at the home base operation. Our CPU just hasn't been running right ever since we upgraded to Windows 10. Enough on that, so let's move on to the love and beauty that you'll find in the following photographs. It's a small and sweet mountain gathering in Steamboat. That area gets covered, but doesn't have a huge surrounding of other towns like Breck does, but nevertheless thought it deserved a showing on our mountain wedding blog that's all about unique towns and settings in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We hope you enjoy our blog and the posts for inspiration and be sure to check out our vendor directory to see what local business folk are supporting this site. If you're a vendor and want to show up on this niche site that's geared towards couples planning weddings, elopements and other mountain love stories, then please contact us and go here to get started with your listing.

Bohemian Mountain Wedding Elopement

Simple and carefree are definitely vibes I get when I look at these pics. The smoke bombs in the fields for dramatic effect is just a fun effect. Try something different and be silly. Make it fun and make memories. It's your day and being surrounded by friends and families should be the most important part. The rest is just filler. Ask us to help you save time and money when you pick a package that we've put together. And no need to fret if you don't see one that's totally what you're looking for. We customize a lot of events for our couples, so please contact us to get started today! Thanks for reading and thanks to all our vendors and photographers who support this site through their listings and submissions.

ALBUM STORY

Through the Colorado outdoors and the sport of snowboarding, these two bonded and fell in love. A relaxed couple with a relaxed wedding. It was beyond stress free, but did not lack any beauty.

These two eloped with a few friends and family to Steamboat Springs, CO.

They rented a cabin in the mountains, where everyone that attended the wedding, also were housed. Her mother and grandmother made all of the food for everyone, and it was delicious, homemade.

They put on a corn hole tournament for everyone up until 10 minutes to ceremony! Her mother even fashioned a flower crown right before she walked down the "aisle". Getting married on the steps of the cabin, their backdrop was beyond stunning.

After exchanging vows, we had a photo adventure, complete with smoke bombs and bottle rockets (and a fire extinguisher group nearby!). The rest of the night consisted of sitting around the fire and watching deer, and having drinks with friends and family.

It was a beautiful DIY elopement!*all food, attire, hair, makeup, decor was done by the family. No outside vendors*

Maja + Patrick: Iceland Wedding in Harjumaa

Adventure Travel and Destination Wedding Inspiration

Today's post is about Maja + Patrick: Iceland Wedding in Harjumaa, with  images courtesy of M&J Studios. This is a continuation of M&J Studios submissions via Two Bright Lights that had me day dreaming about wandering the beaches of Iceland. Please click here to see another set of dramatic photos from this beautiful land. Mountain people are pretty much done with winter about now, but are still stuck with a few more weeks of snow and graupel while the temps get higher and the rivers fill with snowmelt. Lots of the mountain tribes migrate west to Moab, Glen Canyon / Lake Powell or Zion. You might've heard of Bryce Canyon, and those places are right around six hours (maybe a little more for some of these) of driving away from Breckenridge. So, it's actually plausible to think of a mountain wedding in Colorado and then escape to the desert for a honeymoon. Ask us about where we've been and we can steer you in the right place to explore and enjoy.

Waterfalls, Beaches and Icebergs

The icebergs on the beach and terrain in this blog reminded me of some time I spent on a NOLS course in Patagonia, wandering the beaches near the Campo del Hielo Sur, or southern ice field. We paddled away from the glacier we were dropped near, and ice bergs calved from the main sheet of ice drifted with the ebb and flow of the tide through the Chilean archipelago. Iceland looks intriguing and I even know of a college buddy who rode his fat bike through Iceland recently. Whatever mountains you choose, we hope you have a wonderful day full of love. If you're considering an adventure in the Breckenridge area and don't know where to start, please contact us to learn more how we can help you plan an elopement, wedding or vow renewal in our mountainous terrain. There are no ice bergs, but we do have waterfalls and beaches. Kind of, on the beach part. At a few lakes anyway. Thanks for reading!

First thing what comes up in my mind when thinking about Maja and Patrick are they were just so brave! Iceland is a magical natural wonder out of this world, it can take your breath away in every corner but will put you in a test as well. We agreed right away if in case it’s rainy and too windy we will keep the second day as a back-up. The wedding day was so fiercely windy, like nothing I have felt before and when looking back to those photos I truly think Maja and Patrick are one of the bravest couples I’ve ever had. We really fought with the weather, my lenses were constantly full of black sand and it was hard to move on the beach. But, it was so rewarding to see the most happy faces when we ended up on the iceberg fields so called “ice lagoon” in the end of our first day.We drove more than 800km in two days in southern part of Iceland.

After every corner the veil of dreams was lifted and we thought this is the mother of core beauty of all. Raw, clean, pure, you feel so small in it that it must be one of the most magical places to get married on earth. Mostly we were just improvising, exploring new places and places I’ve been before, not in a hurry, just enjoying it all despite the weather. Memorable days to remember forever. I’m so happy that I was able to be there with you, Maja and Patrick.Words from the couple:“We fell in love with Iceland for its romantic melancholy scenery – and its neutrality: with our families being spread all over the world (in China, Germany and the UK) it was impossible to include everybody, so a private wedding followed by receptions seemed the fairest way. Plus, this way we got to follow the wedding with the honeymoon right away!

Iceland turned out to be the perfect destination – so much more breathtaking in person, every turn of the road brought us to new, spectacular views. In fact we were so enamoured we drove 800km over the two wedding days ever in search of new vistas (which Mait so beautifully captured!) and we already can’t wait to go back.”

We did have a lovely florist, who was recommended to us by our lovely AirBnb hosts - she was so friendly and enthusiastic, I e-mailed her a photo of the dress and she made the bouquet to match, and made a hair clip and boutonniere as a gift.

My shoes (both the heels and the booties) were Vivienne Westwood x Melissa. The vintage coat was from my mother in law. Patrick's whole outfit (not that anyone ever cares about the poor groom haha) was Hugo Boss with shoes from Ted Baker. And we chose Iceland because we just loved the unearthly, dramatic landscapes, and because being multi-racial, our families are spread all over the globe... and we decided to have the wedding private, with local receptions to follow as a way to not exclude anyone.

Engagement Photography in Iceland

Today's special feature is all about Sarah + Lauri: Engagement Photography in Harjumaa, Iceland with images courtesy of M&J Studios. If you're a regular to this blog, we're all about the weddings and mountain love stories here in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We're based in Breckenridge, but our blog here shows love stories from around the world. From time to time we get a jaw-dropping session submitted via Two Bright Lights and just have to accept it to share the eye candy. We hope you enjoy this set of images that will help inspire you for a fun day taking photos somewhere in the mountains.

Adventure Weddings and Engagement Photo Sessions

While we'd love to go to Iceland to take some pics ourselves, if you want the help and don't know where to start, we can help you put together a romantic getaway to the Summit County area to take your engagement photos in any of the nearby mountain towns. Each one has its own charm. Keystone, Frisco, Dillon and Silverthorne are close by, while Vail and Beaver Creek are just a hop, skip and a jump over Vail Pass. We put together a custom package that will include a professional photographer, lodging and any other vendors or services you might need. Please contact us to learn more about small weddings and elopements too. For full-service planning needs and larger, destination events with a traditional venue, we can recommend a local Breckenridge wedding planner to work with you for Day-Of, and Coordinating Services. Some years ago when I had my studies in Reykjavik, we drove around the Iceland in three days. Awesome ride! I remember dreaming about coming back in one day and photographing on those places we passed. We drove more than 1400 km with Sarah and Lauri in few days without the rush. We stopped where we wanted, we took our time to see around. We passed all those places, starting from Reykjavik, heading to Vik, passing the Ice Lagoon in Jökulsárlón, all the way through eastern-fjords, to the planet mars type of terrains up in the north, spending the nights in Skaftarhreppur and Myvatn, coming back through Akureyri.I promised to capture the weddings photos of Sarah and Lauri when they get married and Iceland perfectly matched my vision of their wedding shots. On the road we were with the Asgeir’s music playing in our speaker all the way.

Copper Mountain, Colorado Wedding

Today's feature is all about Shantel + Matt: Colorado Wedding at the Copper Mountain Resort with images courtesy of J. La Plante Photo. If you're driving to Breckenridge or Vail, it's right after the second exit to Frisco. A stunning drive through Ten Mile Canyon brings you to Copper Mountain. This world-class ski area is usually one of the first to open during the winter, and is a great option when planning a destination wedding at one of the mountain towns of Summit County. Everyone could easily stay at Copper for the week as basecamp, while branching out to explore.

Destination Resort in the Rocky Mountains

The couple chose a mid-mountain venue, Solitude Station for their ceremony. Not suitable for a reception, guests ride the chairlifts up and then back down to the base of the mountain, where the reception is. The Grand Hall has huge windows with ski slopes out the back door. I've been to a winter wedding here and the lights of the snowcats could be seen going up and down the mountain while the snow was falling. Big venues can be a lot of fun, and please contact us to learn  when you can talk with us about putting together a custom wedding package for Copper Mountain, Colorado.

Copper Mountain holds a special place in Shantel and Matt’s hearts. Shantel grew up skiing at Copper and it’s where she taught Matt how to ski. She gave him some strong motivation, too. When they started dating, she told him that if he wanted to see her at all during the winter, he’d have to learn how to ski. And it worked!

In the winter, you’ll most likely find them on the slopes or at Endo’s Adrenaline Cafe. So, it made perfect sense for them to have their wedding at the top of the American Eagle lift. Guests were treated to a scenic chairlift ride to the ceremony site and breathtaking views while Shantel and Matt exchanged vows.

The party commenced inside Copper Station (just in time for a summer rainstorm to move through) and, with a little help from Dancin’ Shoes DJ, everyone celebrated long into the brisk mountain evening. Special DIY to note: Matt made the wooden box that Shantel had her earrings in and the cornhole boards guests used at the reception.
