Colorado Engagement Photography

Today's post is all about Kira + David: Colorado Engagement Photography in Fort Collins, with images courtesy of Galles Photography. The front range cities and towns don't have the high alpine terrain of Breckenridge and Summit County, but surprisingly there are some very technical and rocky sections around Horsetooth Reservoir and the foothill trails. Boulder is another favorite front range destination with close access to lofty perches and views. If you had an engagement session in that kind of terrain and want to share with us, please visit this page to learn about submitting your event to our Colorado mountain wedding blog.

The proposal story is a great one, and if you're a gps, geocache fan, scroll down a bit further to get the details on how it all went down. If you're looking for ideas for engagement photo sessions, or want to go ahead and employ our assistance and efforts, we'll help you create a custom wedding engagement photography package that is matched up with a photographer that has your style in mind. We'll also discuss possible locations with dramatic views, old historic downtown areas and more. Please contact us to learn more and to start planning your dream.

Kira and David met in the Geology program of Colorado State University. Their relationship has included many geologic traits. Their proposal occurred when David put together a personalized Geocache - a treasure hunt done with a GPS unit. He had a custom ring molded and made for Kira that suited her personality and hiked to the mountains weeks before he popped the question. He then set a point in the Geocache GPS to bring her right to the ring. They went on a hike for their Geocache and when they got the ring location, he had her retrieve the ring from under some rocks while he got down on one knee.

Kira and David wanted their engagement session to be personal and unique. So we did the session on their private property in the foothills of Fort Collins. Their property overlooked the city and had unique trees and rocks to provide a great location for their session. We even had a herd of deer crash the party. We used their engagement photos to make some custom Save the Date cards which included a topographic map of their property as a background.

7 Hiking Trails in the Colorado Rocky Mountains for Viewing Wildflowers [Video]

7-Hiking-Trails-in-the-Colorado-Rocky-Mountains-for-Viewing-Wildflowers-Video.jpg

Alpine Flowers in the Summer

It was a snow spring in the Town of Breckenridge (<-- here's a map link) and all that moisture led me to explore and make this list of 7 Hiking Trails in the Colorado Rocky Mountains for Viewing Wildflowers that you have to see to believe. The slow melting process drips life into blooms that sit under tons of snow and wait until the few days that it is warm enough to fulfill the cycle one more time. It is truly an amazing thing to see, the ski slopes and mountains covered in millions, probably billions of colorful wildflowers.

Adventures in Breckenridge and Beyond

Part of your wedding experience for friends, family and guests could be strolling through the shops along Main Street or you might even spend some time at the Fun Park on Peak 8. Check out the new roller coaster, but the alpine slide is a summer classic in Breck. However, if you're ready with a backpack with your 10 Essentials and want an adventure, check out the videos below. They are best completed with a backpack full of everything you need, a group of energetic friends, and a camera or two. Post a few on our Facebook wall, and be sure to use the hashtag, #breckweddings on Instagram so that everyone can see all the fun high country weddings. Please contact us with any questions. California Engagement Photography

We love Colorado, but have a special place in heart for the hills of California, so we just had to share a  fun set of images in today's post, Van + Justin: Engagement Photography in California, is shared with images courtesy of Love in Photographs (submitted via Two Bright Lights). A few years back we took a trip to see Galactic at the Fillmore in San Francisco. We stopped by Half Moon Bay during the Pumpkin Festival, and headed south along the PCH towards Santa Cruz.

This pair loves spending time together in the great out doors enjoying good ol' California weather and scenery so, for the session I suggested we go for a little hike with their pup - which by they way was how Justin proposed - with a custom dog tag. We headed for the secluded Santa Teresa Hills for a nice hike with some spectacular valley views, a gorgeous field of mustard and the perfect golden hour nearby at Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch. They are a sweet pair with an undeniable chemistry!

Hiking the Amalfi Coast: Honeymoon in Capri, Italy

Hiking the Amalfi Coast: Honeymoon in Capri, Italy

Italian Honeymoon on Capri

After arriving in Milan and hopping a train south to Naples, we immediately boarded a ferry to a place that I think would make a great wedding adventure, or if you've recently married in Colorado, then you can go Hiking the Amalfi Coast, and Honeymoon in Capri, Italy. Europe is on the bucket list for a lot of people, especially Italy, and for good reason. The country's rich history and varied terrain offer a multitude of experiences from urban adventuring to cliffside towns on the Amalfi Coast, to cultural explorations in the ancient churches.

Travel by Water Taxi or Bus

English is widely spoken in the touristy areas, but be prepared for non-English encounters in the smaller towns. Capri is a short distance from the coast of Naples and daily water taxis offer transportation between Naples, Positano and other coastal towns. I wouldn't recommend driving. The roads are tight and are not the faint of heart. The buses are cheaper, but are unpredictable at times, and can be crowded. We waited for over an hour in Positano on the weekend after walking the popular hike, the "Path of the Gods."

Capri Wine Hotel

But, looking back, Capri set the tone for the rest of our travels, and was hard to beat. We stayed at the family-run Capri Wine Hotel, which hands down, had the best breakfast set up. An outdoor seating area provided views of the water, with Vesuvius in the distance, while the staff made trips back to the main lodge, bringing out cups of freshly made cappuccinos, baked goods and omelets.

Mayflower Gulch, near Copper Mountain [Photo Shoot Location]

Mayflower-Gulch-near-Copper-Mountain.jpg

Earlier this summer we hiked along the roads that lead into the high hills  of Mayflower Gulch, near Copper Mountain. We have visited this place before, and really like the feel in this wild mountain basin. You can see the cabins left behind by the miners and try to figure out which peaks are what (bring a topo map for this). If you're planning a destination wedding in or near Copper Mountain, then I'd suggest considering this special area that's definitely worth the drive and short, yet moderately steep hike. We consider the wedding not only the day of the ceremony, but now the whole experience that you create for your guests and that includes the activities in the days leading up to the big day. Adventure weddings in Colorado? Yes, we do that. Please contact us to learn more.

[Activity] Hiking, Fishing, and Photography at Mohawk Lakes

Breckenridge, in the summer, offers so many opportunities to get outdoors and explore, and I've found a place where I can do my three favorite outdoor activities all in one; Hiking, Fishing, and Photography at Mohawk Lakes.  Mohawk Lakes is located off Spruce Creek Road outside of Breckenridge. Follow Hwy. 9 South for two miles then turn right on Spruce Creek Rd. A 4WD vehicle is a plus but not required. If you're not driving a 4WD vehicle I suggest parking at the Spruce Creek Trailhead, and hiking from there. It adds a 4 miles total, but is still worth it for the alpine scenery and beautiful smaller beaver lakes you'll come across. If you are brave enough to take your 4WD vehicle up go as far as you can up the mountain. It gets you closer to the lakes and cuts out several miles of hiking. It will already be a pretty intense hike up to Mohawk Lakes (intense but definitely doable.)

HIKING

The hike its about 7 miles round trip. If you take my advice about driving all the way to the top you will be cutting out about 4 miles all together.

On the day we decided to hike up a bad thunderstorm came through quickly. As soon as we got to the Upper Lake we had to high tail it back down.  With that said, it would be a good idea to bring a rain jacket!

FISHING

We had to stop at the Continental Falls on our way back down. I think this picture needs to be in a Scott Fly Rods ad!

Here's me attempting to catch one of those Brooke Trout that I could see sipping right on top of the water.

All of the lakes off the trail are fishable. I've seen Cutbows and Brooke trout caught right out of the alpine lakes.

PHOTOGRAPHY

A camera is a must-bring-item on this adventure. You may come across mountain goats like I did!

Wildflowers and wildlife abound around the lakes. During this time of year (Late July- Early August) the wildflowers are hitting their peak right along the trails.

Local Highlights for Breckenridge, Colorado: a Skate Park, Riverside Trails and Picnic Tables

This morning on my bike commute to work, I stopped by the skate park for a few minutes to take a few photos.  I am a long boarder myself, so dropping in the bowl isn't necessarily my style, but this blog isn't about me.  It's about you.  It's about the families that are planning weddings and trips to the Colorado Rocky Mountains this summer.

I know a few of the families visiting will have some skateboarders along for the trip, and so, I'll be sharing some skate spots on the blog throughout the summer and tell you where I think the best spots are.  For starters, the skate park is located next to the Breckenridge Recreation Center on Airport Road.

Please contact us if you're a skateboarding bride and groom getting married near Breckenridge, Summit County or even the Vail Valley.  We've got lots of ideas for creative adventure engagement or wedding photography sessions that we're planning on creating for our blog, so let us know if you'd like to help and get featured on our blog!

The bike path starts in town and runs next to the Blue River all the way to Frisco.  You can opt for the Peaks Trail, the more strenuous singletrack path to Frisco, but we'll save that for another blog.  The easy riding bike path also has a few dirt paths along the way.  This one is near the recreation center and skate park.  It follows the kayak park near the Kingdom Park fields near the recreation complex.

These three guys had the bowl all to themselves, but only one had a helmet on.  It is strongly recommended to wear a helmet when skateboarding in this skate park provided by the Town of Breckenridge.  I know it's probably not cool to wear a helmet, but it's probably even more not cool to have a traumatic injury just because you didn't want to wear a helmet.  Unless you're skating like a pro, wear a helmet.  Please.

Skateboarding bride and grooms?  Yes!  Let's do this.  There's also a skatepark in Frisco and another in Silverthorne.   Look for those blogs in the future.  Thanks for reading!
