Cannabis and Colorado Mountain Weddings

Marijuana is legal in Colorado now, and I asked Colorado Cannabis Florist, Buds 'n Blossoms, a few questions in today's post, Peonies + Pot: Florist Uses Marijuana for Colorado Mountain Weddings. There's a time and a place for everything, so as long as you have your bases covered and have done your homework, there's an opportunity for guests and visitors to try and enjoy recreational marijuana. You can even visit a few different shops on your own, or ask us how we can set up a tour of breweries, restaurants, and cannabis dispensaries. You can't smoke in public and definitely not behind the wheel. Just like drinking, you need a sober driver at all times. Ask us how we can set up a shuttle and take care of that for you.

Floral Designs and Decor. That you can smoke later.

Floral designs are now being infused with cannabis and brides and grooms that enjoy the lifestyle might want to share some of these unusual elements with their guests that evening. I would say that that's a double whammy of being green, by recycling the decor for consumption and by supporting local Colorado ganjapreneurs. And one facet of the marijuana industry is the slowly emerging evidence and trends of how couples will enjoy cannabis on their day. Buds 'n Blossoms were excited about recent designs that "even had a bowl tied on one side, a lighter and rolling papers tied to the other side, a cannabis jar and cannabis included in the mini arrangements."

Question: How many cannabis weddings are you doing this summer?

- this is the first season of booking weddings and so far have at least 3 on the books for this summer

- I have done many holiday parties, MJ Investors meetings arrangements, bridal expos and private party arrangements

- we are still fighting the stigma and working with more venues to get them on board

DSC_0407

Question: What should brides and grooms know about Cannabis and weddings?

- that they are legally protected under amendment 64

- there are so many ways to incorporate cannabis into their wedding or special event without the smell or clouds of smoke, there are many fun and discrete options as well!

- choosing the right venue opens all the doors to their true cannabis wedding experience

DSC_0706

Question: What would say are the upcoming trends?

- I think that it will become more and more popular especially as it becomes more widely accepted

- some weddings are not having alcohol at their weddings, only cannabis

- keeping the scene under control thru moderation, similar to drink ticket idea, allowing guests to indulge without misusing or abusing cannabis

- cannabis themed weddings seem to be on a smaller scale than the traditional weddings. After all, cannabis is a little more costly than alcohol, but beautifully it takes less to get the job done

mandap.jpg

Looking for a Keystone wedding planner who can help you find a rental mandap for your destination wedding in Keystone, Colorado? We now know some quality resources for vintage chairs, fancy chairs, linens, and stages to finish the look and setting you're envisioning. We are seeing more and more Indian weddings in Summit County and the Vail Valley, so ask us how we can help bring your dream to life. Please contact us to learn more. And no, this image is not of the mandap being used at a destination wedding in Keystone. This is from when we set it up in our parking lot to go over the piece. We've had this mandap created, and another arch, a sign post, and we've recently purchased mercury glass votives, candy jar type glassware, and rustic birdcages. We're expanding those options right now, so contact us to see what we've added recently. Thanks for reading!

[Venue] the Keystone Ranch Restaurant in Keystone, Colorado. Wedding venue, event location, tent, golf course

If you've been skiing or snowboarding at the Keystone Resort, you've seen the River Run Village and all the action that happens at the main base area where the gondola is located.  Unless you've been golfing here, chances are that you haven't visited the Keystone Ranch Restaurant yet.

We've collected quite a few images here and decided to show you a few different style used in the tent, inside the restaurant, and what the ceremony space on the lawn looks like.  And now, for some design tips and inspiration from the Flower Maven of Petal and Bean, Dina Sanchez, my wife.

Hi everyone!  It's Dina and I love this venue!  It feels like coming home when we work here, as the same faces have stuck around the mountains for as long as I have, and the staff is so accommodating even to the vendors, if we need something they are right there to help.

the first thing you should know is that we have lots of experience working at the Keystone Ranch.  I have been working at the Ranch for the last 19 years. What I love about weddings at the ranch is that the venue is really cozy and romantic. The term that comes to mind is "rustic elegance."  So, my suggestion is when you start to think about decorating the venue for your wedding is to compliment the space. The ceilings are low and the chairs and charger plates have a strong pattern, so keep your arrangements low and try to pick up a color that is present in the room to make everything blend well.

This arch was made with hops because Marco the groom makes his own beer.  When I heard it was available though my supplier, I knew that it would be a really nice personal touch. The hops was great to work with, as it added a lot of texture and a great base for all the flowers.

[Venue] the Keystone Ranch Restaurant in Keystone, Colorado. Wedding venue, event location, tent, golf course

The tent is a great space for your cocktail's and for dancing after dinner. Here you can decorate to what ever degree you want.  This is where your personality can come out.

I can't say that I have one favorite wedding over any of the others. They are all beautiful as they take on a different personality each wedding. One wedding we did do was a 50's theme. It was very original and was a very large crowd so they weren't even in the building.

These large twig balls were suspended and are illuminated with little white lights from within. It looks really beautiful at night adding a warm glow to the tent.

This tent provides a space that can be used for many different reasons. Number one, it's a rain back up for your ceremony.  Sometimes the grass can be super wet and soggy and if it's super dark and windy out, you won't want to have your ceremony outside.  This allows a nice space to have the ceremony in case of inclement weather.

Plus, you can then dress up this area to your liking.  In the image above the tent ceiling was lined and had lights strung behind the fabric.  You can see the bare option in the image below.  We also showed two different style of lanterns in this blog, one being a twine and another being a collection of multi-colored paper lanterns.  Both have their own look and feel, and there's only personal preference and budget considerations to work out along the way.

Several old barns and cabins line the property near the restaurant and further away.  Time it right and spend time taking photos near these rustic features for unforgettable images from your wedding day.

While the bride creates the traditional drama of not being seen, the groom is usually the life of the party, as this one was, saying hi to all the friends and family, checking in with staff and planning help, but overall, having a good time, laughing and enjoying.  Most likely with beverage in hand.  Just have plenty of water and a small plate of food nearby to help everyone stay focused.

[Venue] the Keystone Ranch Restaurant in Keystone, Colorado. Wedding venue, event location, tent, golf course

The staff at the Keystone Ranch monitors the weather prior to the event, and at some point, may have to make the call to dress up the tent for the ceremony.  If that happens, just roll with it, have fun and party on.  Just plan on taking more outdoor photos if the weather allows after the ceremony, or even the next day.  Just be flexible and it'll all work out.

In traditional Jewish weddings , a couple gets married under the Chuppa, a wedding canopy and covering (often cloth) held suspended by four poles. The chuppah is symbolic of the first roof the bride and groom share together, representing their new home.  This symbolizes that there are no walls in this new home, and it encourages the couple to follow in the ways of Abraham and Sarah, whose tent was always open to guests.  Rebecca and Ben's chuppa was draped with  prayer shawls from Ben's grandfather and great-great grandfather.

The oversize deck is a place where dreams are made.  Rebecca and Ben had fabulous wedding weather, which to me, means clouds in the background.  You see, clouds really do help create a stunning natural background.

According to Wikipedia, a modern trend is that a "chuppah can be made of any material.   Silk or quilted chuppot are increasingly common, and can often be customized or personalized to suit the couple's unique interests and occupations."

A wildflower theme was used throughout the decor at the Breckenridge Ski Resort's mid-mountain venue, Ten Mile Station, which is located at 10,234 feet.  This unique venue, in-the-middle-of-the-ski-slopes, overlooks the Blue River valley and can host weddings and receptions from late May through September for up to 200 of your closest friends and family (please check with venue for most accurate figures).

Floral decor included fresh herbs like Seeded Eucalyptus immersed in the plum, orange, brown and powder blue arrangements, bouquets and boutonnieres.  Rebecca's mother, Donna, who helped a great deal with the planning of the wedding,  made a point to  mention that Kelly, initial contact for the venue for Vail Resorts and the Breckenridge Ski Resort, was incredibly helpful in suggesting  local vendors to use.

A big part of Rebecca and Ben's ceremony was the Ketubah signing.  Two witnesses sign the Ketubah (literally the marriage contract) which traditionally  spells out the husband’s obligation to his wife, everything from sustaining her with basic necessities to honoring and cherishing her.

IN Photography's husband and wife team,  Mark & Michele Sprague-DeVries, were the photographers that Rebecca and Ben chose for their wedding.  Together, Mark and Michele, photograph weddings throughout Colorado and after looking at hundreds of their photos from all kinds of weddings over the years, I can definitely say I like their style.

During the week following the wedding, it is customary for friends and relatives to host festive meals in honor of the new couple. This is called the week of  the Seven Blessings, or Sheva Brachot because the seven blessings that are given during the ceremony are repeated after the saying of the Grace at each of these dinners.

{Real Mountain Wedding} Rebecca + Ben at Ten Mile Station in Breckenridge, Colorado | photos courtesy of IN photography, www.INphotography.net

Looking back, one thing that Rebecca and Ben wished that they had done differently was to invite more people.  They were so  worried about going over the capacity for the venue that they held back on the invites and found folks declining, therefore not reaching the potential for a full house and maximum value.  Their advice to other couples was to invite more than you think will show up.  Plan ahead, talk it out and make the most of your resources to determine who's able to travel to the mountains and celebrate with you.

Rebecca and Ben were glad they threw down for the premium bar offering and a fun band for live music.  From the looks of it, they danced  all night long and had themselves a marvelous time! Mazal Tov!

[ Venue ] The Black Mountain Lodge at Arapahoe Basin.

Yes, there are lots of venues that are available for private parties, weddings and special events.  We've decorated quite a few of them, and I'm always trying to take photos as we set up.  Today's photoblog is all about the Black Mountain Lodge at the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area.

One of the things that makes this area so special is that it is one of the oldest ski areas in Colorado.  If you want to see an at-a-glance bit of information for this venue, well, here you go!

Lucky for you, I'm skimming the Basin's web pages about the Black Mountain Lodge, and it looks like this venue can hold up to 300 guests.  But remember, there is no lodging available here.  There are some items that they provide at no extra charge, and here's what those are.

    • Chairs set up for your ceremony
    • Ceremony Arbor
    • Cake Table
    • Gift Table
    • Guest Registry Table
    • Cake Cutting Service
    • Table linens

As we were setting up our flower decor, I noticed the photographer taking a few photos with the east wall as the back drop.  And, if any of you know the basin, then you know that the east wall can be afun, yet dangerous place to ski and / or ride.  You can hike and drop in on one of the chutes, or haul ass and traverse as far and as high as you can.  Either way, it's an alpine adventure that's a classic.

I also noticed an oxygen bar set up in the main room.  We recommend that any parents or older relatives,  that you suspect to possibly have troubles adjusting to the altitude, spend a few days in Denver, which is at 5,280 feet.  Breckenridge is almost twice that, claiming 9,600 feet as its elevation.  And this venue is even higher yet, at 11,550 feet of elevation.

This is a fun, unique addition to your party that will be the talk of the night, and for weeks after the event.  The air even comes in flavors.  Please contact us to learn more how to put the finishing touches on your event, including an oxygen bar!

So, now you've gotten a glimpse at the Black Mountain Lodge.  And I mean just that, a glimpse.  You see, there are 360 degree views of mountains, ski runs and the Continental Divide that I couldn't fit into these frames.  So, take my word for it, your guests will talk about the venue, the setting, and even how they rode a chairlift to a wedding at almost 12,000 feet.  Thanks for reading!

New and Eco-friendly Options for Rental Linens, Table Runners and Chargers

After almost twenty years in the wedding and special event industry in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, we have sourced the best, most reliable resources for flowers, linens and whatever else you might be looking for.  Today's blog is just a snippet of what's available for folks wanting to dress up the tablescape.

Linen rentals, chair covers and coordinated floral decor can make a big impact.  It can help carry over the color palette you've chosen and help create the mood with the theme you've decided upon.  Once you've determined your venue, you can then start to consider floral and decor options.

We get requests for quotes on flowers, but one of the first things we ask as a florist, is where the ceremony and reception will be. We love to give suggestions, but every venue has its own look and feel.  Some have high ceilings, which look good with tall centerpieces.  Others have less light and may have lower ceilings.  All of this matters to us.

These photos are just a sampling  of the new items that we were shown this past week.  These close ups are of chargers, which is the base plate where all the other plates are placed.  This consistent piece of tableware will help the branding of your event throughout the evening.

These photos show chargers in many different styles, but only one color.  Please contact us to learn more about tablescapes, linen rentals and these new chargers.

Our linen rep also explained how they now have an eco-friendly line of rental linens available.  Eco-brides looking to incorporate as many green elements as possible now have an option for their green wedding.

We are big believers in the mantra to reduce, reuse and recycle, and decor rentals are a great way to save time and money.  Ask your florist, wedding planner, or event designer what they recommend for linens and tablescapes.  If they don't have the answers you're looking for, then please contact us to help solve your problems.  That's what we're here for!
