If you've been skiing or snowboarding at the Keystone Resort, you've seen the River Run Village and all the action that happens at the main base area where the gondola is located.  Unless you've been golfing here, chances are that you haven't visited the Keystone Ranch Restaurant yet.

We've collected quite a few images here and decided to show you a few different style used in the tent, inside the restaurant, and what the ceremony space on the lawn looks like.  And now, for some design tips and inspiration from the Flower Maven of Petal and Bean, Dina Sanchez, my wife.

Hi everyone!  It's Dina and I love this venue!  It feels like coming home when we work here, as the same faces have stuck around the mountains for as long as I have, and the staff is so accommodating even to the vendors, if we need something they are right there to help.

the first thing you should know is that we have lots of experience working at the Keystone Ranch.  I have been working at the Ranch for the last 19 years. What I love about weddings at the ranch is that the venue is really cozy and romantic. The term that comes to mind is "rustic elegance."  So, my suggestion is when you start to think about decorating the venue for your wedding is to compliment the space. The ceilings are low and the chairs and charger plates have a strong pattern, so keep your arrangements low and try to pick up a color that is present in the room to make everything blend well.

This arch was made with hops because Marco the groom makes his own beer.  When I heard it was available though my supplier, I knew that it would be a really nice personal touch. The hops was great to work with, as it added a lot of texture and a great base for all the flowers.

The tent is a great space for your cocktail's and for dancing after dinner. Here you can decorate to what ever degree you want.  This is where your personality can come out.

I can't say that I have one favorite wedding over any of the others. They are all beautiful as they take on a different personality each wedding. One wedding we did do was a 50's theme. It was very original and was a very large crowd so they weren't even in the building.

These large twig balls were suspended and are illuminated with little white lights from within. It looks really beautiful at night adding a warm glow to the tent.

This bridal bouquet was for a Keystone Ranch bride and was  made of orange Mokara Orchids, green Cymbidium Orchids, hot pink Gypsy Dianthus, cream Stock, finished off with bear grass loops.

These flower girls were named Una and Usha, and  talked to me about how they felt like princesses wearing their beautiful sari's. They were so cute!

Inside the main dining room.  Low ceilings create a cozy, intimate space for dining on exquisite dinners prepared on site.  The mantle below can be used to hold vases, garland, and even lanterns or candles.  It's up to each bride to decorate the venue in her own style.

The space above is a smaller room connecting the main dining room and the fireplace room.  The fireplace room and tent tends to be where the dancing and after-dinner hanging out happens.

Pinecone place cards were ued to help seat guests, while the golf course is out the back door, helping create that laid back feeling.  In the image below, the valley stretches into the distance behind the groom and his friend posing for photos before the ceremony.

This tent provides a space that can be used for many different reasons. Number one, it's a rain back up for your ceremony.  Sometimes the grass can be super wet and soggy and if it's super dark and windy out, you won't want to have your ceremony outside.  This allows a nice space to have the ceremony in case of inclement weather.

Plus, you can then dress up this area to your liking.  In the image above the tent ceiling was lined and had lights strung behind the fabric.  You can see the bare option in the image below.  We also showed two different style of lanterns in this blog, one being a twine and another being a collection of multi-colored paper lanterns.  Both have their own look and feel, and there's only personal preference and budget considerations to work out along the way.

Several old barns and cabins line the property near the restaurant and further away.  Time it right and spend time taking photos near these rustic features for unforgettable images from your wedding day.

In the image above you see the tent action a few hours before the ceremony.  Tables are being set up, DJ's and musicians are setting up audio equipment, testing mics and speakers.

While the bride creates the traditional drama of not being seen, the groom is usually the life of the party, as this one was, saying hi to all the friends and family, checking in with staff and planning help, but overall, having a good time, laughing and enjoying.  Most likely with beverage in hand.  Just have plenty of water and a small plate of food nearby to help everyone stay focused.

The staff at the Keystone Ranch monitors the weather prior to the event, and at some point, may have to make the call to dress up the tent for the ceremony.  If that happens, just roll with it, have fun and party on.  Just plan on taking more outdoor photos if the weather allows after the ceremony, or even the next day.  Just be flexible and it'll all work out.

Well, that's it.  I hope that these photos show you a few different ideas for the Ranch and Restaurant and what kind of space that this venue provides and how you can then start to imagine your own look and feel inside.  Please share this post with anyone you know planning a wedding at the Keystone Ranch.  Thanks for reading!

{ REAL MOUNTAIN WEDDING } Q&A w/ Krissy + Scott // Keystone Ranch, Colorado: Part 2/2

I_0290_1.jpg

In part 1, Scott reflected on how Leon Littlebird was able to create a unique ceremony experience combining a Christian ceremony with Native American elements.  This is a great way to honor and show respect for the ancient locals, the Utes.  These lands were their hunting grounds, following the buffalo, with some artifacts on Vail Pass going back at least 7,000 years.  We know they called this area, Nahoonkara, but what did they call the peaks of Breckenridge?  I know it wasn't seven, eight, nine and ten.  Or, at least pretty sure.

Q. Do you think vendors should have a presence on our new wedding blog?  Why and how would it help them?

A. Absolutely! We planned our ENTIRE WEDDING WEEKEND by using blogs, websites, and all the info we could find online from Houston, TX.  The first time we saw Keystone Ranch for ourselves was when we rolled into town a couple of days before the wedding itself.  We asked for a lot of referrals (always a good idea) but still did our internet homework before calling ANY of them. The more complete the online presence, the better.  We were from out of state and knew we were taking some chances.

Q. Do you think a niche wedding site for our area is a good idea?

A. Yes.  For us the wedding was more about the relationship than the event.  That said, we wanted an intimate, memorable event that was special for everyone who could make the trip.  Of the 26 people who were at our wedding, only two of them actually lived in Colorado.  When we ran by them what we planned to do, they were quick to say, “it’s going to be hard for you to go wrong there!”  Build on it!

We really wanted a small wedding that included family and close friends.  Once the staff at Keystone Ranch saw how intimate an event we were able to create at their facility, (they seemed MUCH more familiar with very large weddings), I think they got it, too.  Don’t be afraid to push for what you want.  It IS your wedding, after all.  Our guests loved that everyone could sit at the same table for dinner following the ceremony.  By focusing on what we wanted (and DIDN’T want), and sticking to our guns, we wound up with an event we and our guests still talk about!

There are plenty of places we COULD have done a mountain wedding, but our experience in Summit County was AMAZING!

{ REAL MOUNTAIN WEDDING } Q&A w/ Krissy + Scott // Keystone Ranch, Colorado: Part 1/2

I_0384_1.jpg

Krissy and Scott were married at an outside ceremony at the Keystone Ranch.  This beautiful valley is just west of the Keystone Resort and ski area.   We enjoy this quiet spot that you're able to call your own for a moment in time.  Actually, not too long ago we dressed up this very spot for a 50's themed wedding.  And that's the beauty of it, you can do whatever you want.  There are no rules when it comes to modern weddings.

No matter what, it's fun to look back and one thing we'll be doing more is interviewing couples and see what thoughts and feelings they want to share about their real mountain wedding.  And that's exactly what this blog is about, sharing the real stories of real mountain bride and grooms and the way they put their mountain experience all together.

Q. What was the most memorable moment you had at your wedding?

A. We had Leon Littlebird, a Summit County local, officiate our ceremony. His ability to weave some beautiful Native American elements into our Christian ceremony was amazing.  It was truly a unique ceremony and exactly what we wanted.  (Okay…I got caught up and cried with happiness when I first spotted my bride walking up, too!)

Q. What would you do differently looking back?

A. Our wedding was a small, “destination style” event, with a total of 26 people.  We hit the perfect weekend of the aspen trees turning yellow, it was 70 degrees and there was not a cloud in the sky.  I’m not sure we would have changed a thing…except I wish we’d gotten chance to meet the pastry chef Ned Archibald (Keystone) who made our cake.  Being out-of-towners, we didn’t get to sit down for a live tasting of all the flavors he can do…and his cake was incredibly good!

Q. Any "hindsight 20/20" advice you have for couples?

A. Advice: Pay attention to the STYLE of the various photographers.  Even though we learned that our photographer had never previously shot at Keystone Ranch, we knew we liked his artistic style, and trusted him to create artistic shots.  Steve Tinetti was PHENOMINAL!  Every single detail of our event was beautifully captured in pictures forever.  We have a lot of friends (some of whom are photographers themselves) who were blown away by his work.

Q. What resources, vendors, websites and magazines did you get inspiration or help from?

A. We reside in Houston, TX and the decision to get married in Colorado came from a breakfast conversation.  From there, we first looked at websites for weddings in Colorado.  The real help, though, came from when we were selecting photographers.  You can find a lot more pictures that give you a true idea of what your day will look like by paying attention to the location of the weddings they had shot.

For flowers, we wanted something simple and unique that wouldn’t break our budget.  After looking at hundreds of pictures of flowers, my wife finally turned it over to the designers at Petal and Bean. What we got was nothing short of perfect.  They even added a few details better than we had envisioned for ourselves.  We were a MUCH smaller event than the wedding they had done the day prior to ours (at the same location)  but they made us feel just as important.
