{ REAL MOUNTAIN WEDDING } Annie + Matt: St. Mary's Church Ceremony & Reception at Rubywood in Breckenridge The following photoblog of Annie and Matt's real mountain wedding at St. Mary's Catholic Church followed by a reception at Rubywood, a private luxury home rental in Breckenridge. The ceremony was downtown while the home is a short drive away, but goes up Boreas Pass road to the top part of the neighborhoods on Mt. Baldy. Any higher up and you're looking at old gold mines and alpine tundra.

St. Mary's Catholic Church

Annie and Matt chose the older, historic side of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. There's  a newer addition that adds room to the original structure  built in 1881 to host their traditional ceremony.

A Bouquetless Bride

Annie was bouquetless,, choosing to hold on to the arms of her mother and father as she walked down the isle, there was no reason to have a bridal bouquet. She said that the most memorable part of her wedding was “My husband crying as I met him at the altar”.  It's all about priorities, and this bride chose to hold hands and not flowers.

Rubywood - A Paragon Lodging Property

Annie and Matt’s reception was held at Paragon Lodging’s Rubywood  in Breckenridge.  Paragon Lodging is a company that manages luxury homes all over the world and they offer the homes for rentals and even for small weddings. Granted there are a lot of rules, regulations and fees that come with renting out one of these homes for a wedding, but if you’re the type that doesn't want a stock wedding from a reception venue and you want to keep it intimate, having your reception in a luxury home just may be what you’re looking for.

Ashley Davis Photography

Annie said that the one thing she didn’t know before her wedding was how beautiful the flowers and wild grasses are in the summer in Breckenridge. Annie and Matt chose Boulder, Colorado’s Ashley Davis for their photographer. From the preparation to the reception Ashley’s documentary style of photography captured the little details, smiles and emotions throughout the day.  Her mission is ‘Real Photography For Non-Traditional Couples’.

Since Annie and Matt didn’t go with a traditional reception sight, they had more freedom in all of their choices.  Annie said it was worth spending the extra money on the “Food!  Everyone always says that no one remembers the food at a wedding, but that's because it's usually not very good.  Our food was amazing and people truly enjoyed the eating portion of our reception and still talk about it.

Ridge Street Kitchen

Annie and Matt chose Breckenridge’s Ridge Street Kitchen for their catering.  Kelly Brenholt from Ridge  Street Kitchen remembers Annie and Matt's wedding well saying, 'she really went with the "whole feel" as far as the BBQ dinner goes--we had cool tin plates, mugs, gingham and burlap linen, and  country/bluegrass music. For the wedding dinner we included her family's spoon bread recipe and went with a little bit more elegant---shrimp and beef dinner---to go withh the elegant decor/flowers/linen, etc.'

Annie  also mentioned that, “The ornate details in the decor too! (Were worth spending extra money on) ."  The chandeliers at our wedding were incredible; white roses,  manzanita branches, hanging crystals, and lights.”

Annie said in hindsight about her wedding and planning, “I wouldn't do anything different because we took our time planning, we listened to advice from other couples and we truly, truly followed our instincts with what we wanted our wedding to be. It is so easy to get caught up in having your wedding be some sort of show and tell versus a celebration of the love you and your spouse share.”

Wedding Blessings: The Salt Covenant at Rubywood // Old School Traditions From the Past Used in Modern Day Weddings. [Part Two]

What will your ceremony be like?  The beauty of planning a wedding today is that there are no hard and fast rules anymore.  Yes, you can seat everyone in the standard, stage-audience chair set up, but there are ways to create circular ceremonies, and even seating off to one side of the pew (which I saw at a mountain wedding just a few weeks ago, very cool by the way).

Ceremonies can be inside or out, but when it comes down to it, what are you going to do at your ceremony?  Will you light a unity candle?  Mix some sand?  There are various traditions and ceremonies out there, so we're gonna start to help sift through our roots and explore the old ways and creatively implement them using a modern feel.  How does that sound?

At Rubywood, brides walk down this stone path by the water feature onto the two-level deck to exchange vows with the backdrop of the Ten Mile Range and the Breckenridge Ski Resort.

While planning details were being carried out, Dina was creating one-of-a-kind floral decor for the ceremony deck.  Lanterns were hung, and vine and Dahlias carefully placed.  Everything was coming together just as they wanted it.

The steps on the lower right of this image is the path taken down to the level where the officiant and wedding party stand to perform the ceremony.  Guests are seated above, with room to stand on either side of the chairs.

This is the view of the Breckenridge Ski Resort from just inside the doors leading out to the back deck.  It's a nice location that does trip duty, as you can have your ceremony here, your reception here, and then sleep here.  Check with us on working out the details of booking this and other private homes in the Breckenridge and Summit County area.

I first met Grace when she was taking a minute to scout the local terrain for the "first look" photos.  A nearby patch of trees was turning yellow, and there were plenty of lodgepole pine for a dramatic forest scene.  A short drive up away is Boreas Pass, where panoramic views and strands of Aspen trees are.

You can see the stack of chairs and tables in the back of tent, ready to go.  Items in place, check.  Once the details are good to go, everything is ready and the party begins.  Actually, some things might not be ready, but you'll figure out a way to keep the day going, even if certain things don't make it in.  If for some reason, the cake topper doesn't show up, or the wrong song is played, one of the best things you can do is to not stress, smile and laugh and party on.

Grace Combs then took this photo, which I saw her post on her Facebook page for Grace Combs Photography and said,

This couple did whats called a Salt Covenant where they mixed salts together during the ceremony. They then asked their guests to add spices to the their salts to represent how each guest has added "spice" to their lives, both individually and a couple. [Read about the Salt Covenant here]

There are many ways to include your pet in your wedding experience.  They can come along and be with the family at a private home rental, or you can even dress them up and have them become part of the ceremony.

[VIDEO] An Introduction to Paragon Lodging, a Luxury Rental Property Company

This video gives a general overview of Paragon Lodging, which offers luxury homes for rent.  A trend we've noticed for destination weddings in the Rocky Mountains is to skip the bigger venues, and to work the wedding and lodging into one location.  This makes sense for many reasons, those of which, we'll save for another blog.

[VENUES] Rubywood + V3 Ranch // Luxury Home Rentals for Destination Weddings in Breckenridge, Colorado

The sun goes down and the temperature drops.  But that's because you're at about 10,500 feet when you're at either Rubywood or the V3 Ranch in Breckenridge.  Both properties are managed by Paragon Lodging, which has an easy-to-find office on the right side of main street as you drive south into Breck from Frisco.Rubywood, a Paragon Lodging Property - Breckenridge Wedding Venue, Breckenridge Wedding Property Rental, Luxury Home Rentals, Breckenridge Colorado

Rubywood sits high on Baldy Mountain looking directly west at the Breckenridge Ski Resort.  Avoid the hustle and bustle of Main Street and reserve a slice of heaven tucked in the clouds.  A private home rental is the right choice for couples not needing or wanting a large conference-style, multi-purpose room, but an intimate homey-feelin' gathering.

And what better way than to have it in an actual home and not a hotel.  Each couple's needs and wants are different, and we know there are couples that want to find that perfect Breckenridge or Summit County wedding venue.  Some are too big, and some are too small.  Ask us how to narrow down the search with our Kickstarter Package.
