We love love LOVE working with Carla, owner of Garden of Eden in Breckenridge. Her floral designs are wild and beautiful and literally the prettiest things I’ve ever seen. Stoked to be able to share her incredible work with our clients and to share a bit more about her with you here!

how’d you get started?

Before owning the flower shop, I worked as a mechanical engineer. I went to school for engineering and got the fancy degree hoping to satisfy my desire to design while also making a great living. Truth be told I hated sitting behind a computer and designing in AutoCAD. My entire life I have always been a crafty artist that has played around in all sorts of mediums- from drawing, painting, making jewelry, weaving macrame, making wreaths, etc. While at my desk job, I was desperate to use my hands to design and make a living. When a flower shop popped up for sale on Craigslist, in my own town, I recognized it as a sign from the universe, took the big leap, and went for it. I had zero experience in designing flowers but I knew I was the type of person that could figure it out!

how do flowers speak to you?

Lets just say, I always have connected more with Nature than with people. I love being in the woods or in my garden surrounded by growing plants and flowers. Such an incredible beauty that NEVER gets old. It still blows my mind that mother nature created all the colorful blooms of flowers on her own. There's one flower- fritillaria, that literally has a checker print pattern on the petals! its crazy! Flowers make me incredibly happy.

favorite bouquet styles?

At Garden of Eden, we love to design " Unexpected creations inspired by nature". That's our motto. We create garden-inspired bouquets that have lots of greenery mixed throughout, negative space, and flowers placed at different depths to resemble what you might see in an overgrown English garden. In nature, flowers and plants grow in all sorts of directions and heights, depending on light and water. We like our arrangements to resemble that.

what’s next?

Our current goal is to design more floral installations and wearable flowers. We have plans in the works to showcase more of what we are capable of when it comes to floral design! And our new location will allow us to do just that. Our installations are mainly hanging from the ceiling, florals and greenery dripping down and floating magically above your head. Or alternatively an abstract design with branches, grasses, and all sorts of eye-catching textures. These installations have a huge dramatic effect and are the perfect design for any event large or small. We are also planning on opening up a whole line of wearable flowers. From floral tattoos, floral sunglasses, floral shoes, floral rings, and earrings to full-on floral headpieces, and chunky necklaces! You name it- we can add flowers to it!
