Winter Wedding in Breckenridge, Colorado

Today's post is all about Kelsey + Matt: Breckenridge Winter Wedding at the Double Tree with images courtesy of  Katie Keighin Photography. It's in the thick of the hottest days in Breck right now, and will be cooling off soon. In about one month is when the golden trees typically peak. The aspen trees brilliant color last for a few weeks and then make way for the white gold that the mountain resorts of Summit County are known for. Then, you can plan a romantic winter wedding, elopement or vow renewal with the magic of snow everywhere. The crisp air is a faint memory at this exact moment, as the garden flowers are still blooming and summer adventures are still being planned. But, time goes by fast, and if you need help, as you don't have enough time to do all the research, then we can set you up with a custom wedding package that will solve a lot of your problems. We'll even figure out if you need a full-fledged planner or day of coordinator on site. Some do, but not everyone does.

Double Tree Wedding Reception Venue in Breck

Just a short walk or even shorter drive from downtown Breck, the DoubleTree is on the lower slopes of Peak 9. The Beaver Run chairlift is across the street, as well as the Quiksilver six pack. Peak 10 is right there, and during the summer you have access to the ski area road and Burro Trail. Not many venues in Breckenridge can provide this kind of location, nestled right in between the ski area and historic district that is filled with shops and restaurants. This venue has a shuttle that transports guests around, but it is walkable. The church is in the historic area too, so it's all pretty close together. It still helps to have someone on hand with the bigger parties, as in this feature. Please contact us to learn more about how we can help you best. Thanks for stopping by!

Kelsey and Matt met at an ugly sweater Christmas party in 2011. Kelsey is from Nashville, TN and Matt is from Ann Arbor, MI. In 2011, Kelsey was living in Birmingham, AL working at her first job out of college. During that time, Matt was working on his PHD at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. While studying at Vanderbilt, Matt joined a baseball league and met one of Kelsey's good friends. Christmas of 2011, Kelsey traveled home to Nashville and was invited that friends ugly sweater Christmas party. Kelsey and Matt met at this party and became instant friends.

At one point in the evening Matt borrowed Kelsey's phone and recorded over 2 hours of funny videos. Kelsey and Matt went on to be friends for almost a year, when Kelsey moved back home to Nashville for a different job. A group of friends invited both Matt and Kelsey on a group camping trip at a local lake and they hit it off. Later that month, they had their first kiss at a bar on Music Row in Nashville and have basically been together ever since. One of the guys that hosted the party where they met was a groomsmen in their wedding.

Two years later Kelsey and Matt had purchased a house in Nashville and had two dogs, a maltipoo that Kelsey had since college and a retriever mix they rescued together. Kelsey was out running errands early on a Sunday and when she came home, their dogs came running down the staircase with little signs around their necks. One of them said "will you marry dad" and the other said "say yes".

When Kelsey got to the top of the staircase, Matt was down on one knee. He asked Kelsey if she would marry him and of course, she said yes. Matt was so nervous that he couldn't stand back up and Kelsey had to kneel down herself to help him get the ring on her finger. Matt and Kelsey now have three dogs and recently relocated from Nashville, TN to St. Louis, MO.

Vail, Colorado Chapel Wedding

Today's post is all about Sarah + Ryan: Vail, Colorado Wedding at Donovan Pavilion with images courtesy of cmp studios. The Vail Interfaith Chapel is near the heart of Vail and was the location for the ceremony in this Vail Wedding. Trees and Mountains surround the chapel and a short distance away is the second stage for this gathering of family and friends. A drive down the frontage road and you'll find a park with the bike path nearby, a multi-purpose facility with a firepit and Gore Creek in the backyard. This is location for Donovan Pavilion.

Vail Wedding Reception Venue: Donovan Pavilion

Huge windows face the southern slopes in the Vail Valley, but large trees provide shade and you have an outdoor space out the backdoor that is perfect for outdoor ceremonies. Provided it doesn't rain, of course. Which, in the mountains, happens quite often. I'll be the first to tell you that afternoon showers are pretty regular in late afternoon, usually right around the time for ceremonies and pre-dinner cocktails. So, delay it if you can, or go for it and dry off by dancing with your closest loved ones. Ask us how we can help you plan an elopement or destination wedding in Vail, Beaver Creek or the Eagle-Vail region.

Ryan and Sarah were married in the Vail Interfaith Chapel in the Mountains of Colorado. Living in DC now, this was their dream destination wedding.

[Venue] The Church at Agape Outpost in Breckenridge, Colorado

This is an interesting blog as I've embedded a new feature over on Google+, Stories, and it shows my photos and videos from visiting the Church at Agape Outpost for a client. We were deciding which of our three ceremony arches would look best with the look the bride is going for. Contact us to learn more about this and other Breckenridge wedding venues!

[venue] St. Mary's Catholic Church in Breckenridge, Colorado

On French Street, a few streets east of Main Street is where you'll find the St. Mary's Catholic Church.  The image below shows the older, more picturesque side of the church, while a bigger, more modern side exists on the southern side of this original structure.  Families choosing downtown Breckenridge lodging can walk or arrange for a shuttle or transportation service to cater to guests going to ceremony and reception sites in different locations.

You see, Breckenridge is small, but there are enough hills and icy sidewalks to make it worth it to invest in professional transportation services.  These guys will have your guests to and from in style, on time and will be able to assist in other related needs.

Outdoor winter weddings are rare, due to the extreme alpine weather that can exist at any given moment at 10,000 feet in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, so most folks choose for a day where the ceremony and reception are both in protected spaces.

However, there are brides that choose outdoor spaces like Sapphire Point, which do not have any back up spaces, and the trail getting to the location may not be the easiest to get to.  One year, we were checking it out a few days before an outdoor winter wedding, and we just happened to run into the ranger who was doing the same thing, checking on the space and was going to be there for a few hours to chop in some steps into a five foot wall of snow that was pretty icy in spots, and therefore needed attention for paying clients who can be expected to have guests of all physical abilities.

20121230-201854.jpg

It was downright frigid for a few days there, freezing the pipes at our house for part of the morning.  That was fun.  Unless you have in-floor heating and have nice, warm pipes, leave your faucets on a slow drip for the night, so that they never freeze up overnight.  It's more of an inconvenience, but there is always a chance of a leak or rupture somewhere because of the freezing.

So, when these girls went outside to pose for photos the next day in 21 degree weather, it was almost like a heat wave had come into town.  It wasn't windy, it was nice and the girls held their custom made bouquets for photos by the Maggie Pond with the slopes of the Breckenridge Ski Resort in the background.

[Venue and Photo Shoot Location] Father Dyer's Cabin in Breckenridge, Colorado. Father Dyer United Methodist Church.

Ok, I originally wanted to do a short little post on this tiny little cabin that sits in the corner of the parking lot of the Father Dyer United Methodist Church in Breckenridge.  I decided to add in some photos of the church too, so check it out!

You see, this church takes its name from the famous "Snowshoe Itinerant."  If you're considering using this church as your venue, then please be aware that a little piece of history is right next to you and makes a great backdrop for photos.

{ Real Mountain Wedding } Carly + Dan: Ceremony at St. Mary's Catholic Church & Reception at the Lodge and Spa in Breckenridge, Colorado

Today's real wedding is camera work from local mom, Erin Pellant of Elegant Productions.  She might be taking some time off to welcome her new family member to the scene in Summit County, Colorado, but go ahead and reach out and see when she'll be available to work again.  Congratulations to the Pellants!

"Dan & Carly met at a bike shop that Dan was working for at the time, which is so fitting seeing as they're both a lover of the mountains and the outdoors and the design of their wedding truly reflected that with a rustic Colorado and aspen theme throughout. They had a beautiful ceremony at the historic St. Mary Catholic Church in Breckenridge followed by an amazing reception up at the Lodge & Spa at Breckenridge. They mixed in a photo session on Boreas Pass road (one of my favorite spots in Breck) and had a lovely pink sunset looking back towards the slopes to end the evening."

{ REAL MOUNTAIN WEDDING } Christina + Gabe // A Military Wedding at the Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge, Colorado

An annual winter treat for Breckenridge is to host an international snow sculpting competition that challenges teams to carve square blocks into temporal works of art that last for two weeks.  And just as the blocks of snow hold fine details until they melt away, the details of weddings are forever captured in images.  The photos in today's military wedding are courtesy of Team Girtman of Studio Kiva, who are moving into some new digs in Breck as I write this.

This  mountain bride found a way to incorporate her school spirit into her wedding day!  We love when the couples personalize their event, and there are some great colleges out there that proud students and alumni are working into their event.

This photo shows the girls getting ready in the older side of St. Mary's Catholic church in the historic downtown area of Breckenridge.  There's a newer addition that is much larger that the ceremony was held in.  Smaller weddings can use the older, original structure if they choose.  It has its own charm, for sure, and for the right couple, it'll be the right place.  But, it's the older church that's great for pictures.

This vase arrangement held tall elegant stems called Calla Lilies.  They come in a dark, eggplant color that looks amazing too.

According to weddingdetails.com, "In many ways, the U.S. Military wedding is like any other wedding. The ceremony itself is not a military service but a religious one. What makes it a military wedding is the attire and perhaps some traditions not found in civilian weddings. There is such pomp and circumstance, pageantry and patriotism in these sophisticated rituals."  I looked this up, because I was wondering what a military wedding was all about.  There's also some great information on military weddings on this site as well.

This lucky couple timed it perfectly and were able to use the carved blocks of snow from the snow sculpting championships as their backdrop for a photo session.  Now, those are some wedding photos that you won't get just anywhere.  They even added a new LED lighting system this year and it made the blocks into an amazing night experience as well.
