"I want a rustic organic look!" Over the years, brides have expressed wanting to use more unusual flowers. We have suggested using berries, pods and unusual greens to add an organic feeling to their wedding decor. Protea can add depth and texture to your mountain wedding decor.
Some winter weddings look great in an all-white palette, or a frosty blue hue to reflect the pristine feel that comes with a snowy backdrop like a destination wedding in Breckenridge. However, there are no rules any more and if you want to try something new and unusual, then we suggest exploring unusual and non-traditional wedding flowers, including the tropical blooms featured here, the Pincushion Protea and the Oncidium Orchid.
How would you use these in a winter wedding? You can now comment via your Facebook profile, so please let us know what you think of this idea!
This article was written by Dina Sanchez, aka the Flower Maven, and brings years of experience and has created happy memories for hundreds of weddings in Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Dillon, Frisco, Keystone, and Silverthorne, Colorado. If you have a question about flowers, decor for a particular venue, then chances are good that we've been there and done that. And not many vendors or bloggers can make that claim. We've created this blog and online resource to help brides, grooms, and vendors connect to plan destination weddings in the Rocky Mountains near Summit County. How can we help you?
"Fifteen photographers from throughout the country met up in the beautiful town of Breckenridge, CO. Hosted by Denver wedding photographer, Keri Doolittle, the ladies came to learn about photography, talk shop and enjoy the surroundings of Breckenridge, CO. The days were spent photographing some families and newborns and gathering into mini-sessions to learn about marketing, studio management and website/SEO."
This group of images is courtesy of Joe Kusumoto, a longtime mountain man who works for the local adaptive organization, the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, of which I have volunteered (and you all should too) as a ski and snowboard helper.
We've worked with Joe at numerous events here in Breckenridge, Summit County and even the Vail Valley and Beaver Creek. Mention "Summit Mountain Weddings" when contacting Joe! He wants to know you found him on this blog.
"Simply put, Joe’s passion is people. Being around people, being a part of and witnessing human interactions, living and feeling and experiencing.
Joe’s wedding photography is an extension of what he loves: portraying people. With a unique sensitivity towards his subjects, he finds the emotion and purity of the moments that are important to you." - from kusumotophoto.com
At the base of Peak 10's Falcon Lift, on Breckenridge Ski Resort’s Peak 9, sits the stunningly elegant, yet rustic, Ten Mile Station, where Cara and Heman (say Hay-men) invited 200 of their closest friends and family to be part of their once in a lifetime wedding ceremony and reception in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
In late July, the mountainsides were alive with wildflowers and the well-manicured perennial gardens were blooming with royal blue Lupine, rare, red Columbines and Delphinium.
Cara and Heman’s photographer, Becky Young , captured all the details of their stunning day perfectly. Her style is described as "joyful and modern mountain photography." She specializes in documentary style wedding photography throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountains. Her attention to detail, use of natural light and the majestic surroundings do not go unnoticed, these photos are amazing!
Breckenridge’s own Petal and Bean created Cara’s bright Gerber Daisy bridal bouquet along with the groomsmen’s boutonnieres and the bridesmaid’s bouquets. Petal and Bean has been in the wedding flower business since 1994 and has worked with hundreds of brides creating the perfect wedding flowers and event decor for their special day.
Keeping with her mountain spirit, Cara spent a good part of her day walking around in her sandals under her gorgeous, strapless wedding gown as you can see here with their cute dog and her bridesmaids riding the lift.
Ten Mile Station is located at 10,234 feet above the Blue River Valley and the quaint Victorian town of Breckenridge on the Slopes of the Breckenridge Ski Area, where it can rain or snow at any time of the year. However, Cara and Heman were blessed with a glorious blue skies and giant cottony clouds as their backdrop and they didn’t need the umbrellas after all, but they are a good thing to have on hand just in case. Colorado is typically known for afternoon showers in the summer.
After their beautiful ceremony out on the enormous deck, the staff at Ten Mile Station served an elegant sit down dinner to all their closest friends and family . Following dinner and several rounds of toasts to the happy couple, Heman, Cara and their guests satisfied their sweet tooths with dark devil’s food, vanilla and red velvet cupcakes.
They danced all night until the skies filled with stars and had the perfect day. Cara and Heman’s wedding is definitely one that will not soon be forgotten by anyone who was lucky enough to be there. The gondola at the Breckenridge Ski Resort loads near downtown Breckenridge and stops briefly in the Shock Hill neighborhood before making its way across Cucumber Gulch to the base of Peak 7 and an unload at the Sevens Restaurant. This slopeside venue allowed Kiley and Andrew ski slopes to wander with wedding photographers, Jason and Gina Grubb, of Jason + Gina Wedding Photographers.
