Summit County, Colorado Wedding

Today's post is a feature of Adrienne + Josh: Lake Dillon Wedding in Summit County, Colorado with images courtesy of Meredith Moran Photography. We are slowly catching up after a series of technical difficulties that delayed the posting of weddings that had been submitted via Two Bright Lights and through email. We apologize for those delays. Regardless, this simple mountain ceremony took place on the shores of Lake Dillon, aka Dillon Reservoir. They chose the quiet Snake inlet side, where you find the Keystone Resort a short distance away.

It looks like first thing in the morning, as the skies are clear and the water being flat. The later in the day, the clouds and winds pick up, as do the chances for rain and thunderstorms. I'll be the first to tell you that afternoon showers come regularly during the summer season in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. But, don't be discouraged, for you'll have read this blog and will have umbrellas handy, and / or a back up plan in place. Either way, your day will be just fine. Clouds actually make for beautiful photos. Please contact us to learn more about putting together a package for a custom wedding, elopement or vow renewal. We know the best of the best that service the Breckenridge area and Vail Valley.

This couple chose a beautiful spot in the mountains of Colorado to be married in the presence of just their close family. They celebrated with more friends & family later that day at an art gallery back in Denver.

[ART OF MOUNTAIN TRAVEL] Swan Mountain Road: Take a Drive on the Mountain Roads near Breckenridge and Summit County, Colorado

Whether you're in town for vacation or a wedding, there's one thing I always recommend folks to do, and that's to visit another mountain town besides the one they're staying in.  For example, when we were married, we had everyone go to the Frisco Marina for our lakeside ceremony, which was then followed by a pontoon paradeon Dillon Reservoir.  We did this because we thought it was important for our guests to see a bit more of our county than just one town.

We love how each town has its own feel, and even took our family on a wedding at Piney River Ranch in Vail this past summer.  It was just a simple drop off, and then we strolled through the Vail village afterwards.  Either way, there's so much to see and do in our mountain community, that we simply recommend to get out there and take a drive to literally see for yourself.

This is the same road that the world class cyclists rode over as they traveled from Steamboat to Breckenridge this past summer.  It was quite a big deal, and folks were camped out along side this stretch of road the night before the event.  The road closed for part of the day, and we had to leave a few hours earlier than normal to ensure that we were where we needed to be in order to do our job, and that was to decorate and deliver flowers to our mountain top wedding at Timber Ridge, which is on North Peak, in Keystone's Outback.

You have options on this drive, including continuing around the lake, while perhaps stopping off to take a hike on one of the many trails and bike paths that circle the Dillon Reservoir.  We'll explore the Loveland Pass option in another blog, so check back!

We will also be sharing some of our favorite spots to take photos near the Lake in upcoming posts, so check back for more great localized info that you can actually use to plan your wedding in the Rocky Mountains near Summit County.

This view in this photo is looking west from the Keystone side, where the Snake River enters the reservoir.  Swan Mountain road is on the left side here, and that's Buffalo and Red mountain in the distance, part of the Gore Range.

After a summer of weddings at our flower shop in Breckenridge, we get to enjoy fall a bit.  We still have weddings for the next few weeks before it really slows down, but the fall colors really motivate you to get out and enjoy the outdoors.  Dina rode around the lake and up to Montezuma, just outside of Keystone, and we talked about how that area would be great for a local photo session.

I sent Kay a message and asked her to take some photos of her backyard.  You see, Kay lives near Keystone, Colorado and per our request, captured some images for you all to enjoy.  Thanks Kay!  Oh, and she says that if you mention this "Fall Colors 2011" blog, she'll hook you up with a 10% savings.  Now, that's sweet!

I asked Kay for a few words to share about this time of the year and how it makes her feel...

"Fall in Summit County happens so darn fast.... one day the hills are ALIVE with color, and then they are gone. Freezing temperatures, shorter days, and less moisture all effect this beautiful season... but it brings so much WARMTH to photos of all kinds. As photographers we avoid the harsh mid-day sun with most portraits and weddings, but in fall sometimes it can be as warm and golden as can be mid day because of all that yellow and gold brightening our skies. I LOVE fall! And so sad to see it move on so fast...."

[MOUNTAIN PHOTOGRAPHY] Star-filled skies over Summit County by Daniel McVey

I walked outside to take out the trash last night, and there was an amazingly clear star-filled sky above.  Seeing the thick white stripe of our galaxy is always a nice treat.  If you're so lucky to attend a mountain wedding near the Breckenridge area, then you should escape the festivities to check out the stars for yourself.  You just might not want to go back inside.

We had some pretty heavy monsoon rains these past few weeks, but I'm already noticing social media chatter with the words "cooler mornings" and "feels like fall" going around.  Regardless, we suggest you grab a jacket, a beverage of your choice, and then go outside and stare up and the sky.  A saying comes to mind, and that's to "shoot for the moon, because even if you miss, you still land among the stars!"

[HOW TO] have a pontoon parade on Lake Dillon as part of your adventure wedding in Rockies.

IMGP2652.jpg

When planning your Rocky Mountain wedding in Summit County, Colorado you can incorporate a water experience into your options with a rafting trip, fly fishing experience or even a pontoon parade.  Yes, that's exactly what we did for our friends and family.  We had our ceremony near the Frisco Bay Marina, and decided against the family kayaking chaos we envisioned and went with the pontoon parade idea.

Our pontoons were rented from the Frisco Bay Marina. | photo[AllysiaAngus]

Just after the ceremony, we boarded reserved pontoons (a must) and headed out towards the center of the lake through the islands.  We still remember my cousin, Glen, wearing his bluetooth opening up the throttle on the pontoon trying to pass us.  Our pontoon putt putt quickly turned into a scene from Miami Vice as I wondered who was so important that might call that warranted sporting a bluetooth earpiece.

Looking back, I'm glad we were able to share the experience of being on the water in the mountains with our friends and family.  We did get a big wave from a passing Sheriff's boat put enough water in the front of our pontoon that we thought we might be swimming for a second!  We drained our shoes and wore flip flops the rest of the night!

Eye protection is very important. He's also wearing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and sunscreen (SPF 60). | photo[AllysiaAngus]
