Vanessa and Pete live in the sleepy northern area of Muskoka, Ontario. It is known well by North Americans as the go-to luxury summer cottage destination. Vanessa met Pete on a blind date back in 2007 at a redneck trailer party. Their mutual friend thought they would be perfect for each other. Vanessa wore skinny ripped jeans and a hooters t-shirt and Pete wore a white t-shirt. Pete proposed to Vanessa in August 2014 at her parents home a day early then planned as he didn't want to lose the ring! It was a private moment away from everyone. Pete purchased the stone for the ring from a family friend who was a jeweller, and had it custom made by a designer in Oakville, Ontario.

For the engagement session, Vanessa and Pete wanted to include personal touches including custom made adirondack chairs, a family heirloom quilt, and cowboy boots, that Vanessa plans to wear to the wedding! Vanessa's chose three outfits for the session that represented her personal style. The first, a flowered H&M dress with cowboy boots. She also wore a gorgeous Maxi dress by Knot Sisters of LA, purchased at Belle's Boutique in Muskoka. The pair also wore sweatshirts from Muskoka Bear Wear.

Vanessa and Pete included their beloved dog, Jherico in their session.. he was so well behaved!

Jessica + Chris: Canadian Rocky Mountain Wedding at the Sawridge Inn, Alberta

Canadian Rocky Mountain Wedding

For today's post, we head up north to share Jessica + Chris: Rocky Mountain Wedding at the Sawridge Inn, Alberta with images courtesy of Milton Photography. If you follow the spine of the Rockies north, it leads up into Canada, and the location for today's feature. Jasper sits at the top of a classic area, the Icefields Parkway, and would make for an epic road trip. Bonus points if you do it on touring bikes. I was lucky enough to drive up that road and then head west towards the coast, where I put my truck on a ferry headed to Alaska. But, that story is for another blog. Let's get back to the event on hand, nestled in the most majestic chain of mountains I've ever seen.

Destination Mountain Weddings

If you've found this blog, you're probably researching planning a destination wedding in Breckenridge, or one of the other mountain towns of Summit County. This location in Canada looks amazing, but if you can't make it up that way, perhaps an elopement to Colorado is all you really need. Right now, couples are contacting us and planning their winter getaway. Some are taking steps to finalize their summer wedding at a private rental home. Options are endless. We are, however, aware that all of this takes time, and so we've created custom wedding packages that help you save time and money. Contact us to learn more!

A year before the wedding Garry (Jessica’s Dad) and I spoke about destination weddings and what made them so great was that the family that hadn’t met yet get an opportunity to get to know each other at a resort for a week instead of a 1 day wedding and a “nice to meet you… see you at the reunion”. Jess and I really wanted to have that but in a place we love so much.

We invited people to come to Jasper and camp leading up to the wedding. We had 50 people join us at Whistlers campground and we had drinks, played games, went biking, hiking and just really got to know each other. Almost everything we had for decor was either made by us, family or purchased second hand from a previous wedding. We decorated everything ourselves.

Overlooking the the mountains behind us at the Maligne Lookout in Jasper on a nice sunny day surrounded by our family and friends. Our good friend Jessica Marsh singing and playing songs for us to walk down the aisle to. Our dogs walking down the aisle by family. I remember taking small moments to breathe and take it all in and just be content being in the Mountains and with her in front of me.

All of our hard work into the set-up and decor came together and looked amazing. Music is a huge part of our lives so we wanted to bring that into everything we could. We asked our friends Pete and Denise from 100 Mile House to play our first dances. They learned a few songs we has requested (even an acoustic version of Daft Punk Get Lucky to lead into the dance part of the night) It was really something that they agreed to come and play. THEN, to have JP Hoe surprise us on top of that and play 4 songs of his own was just unbelievable… We had daydreamed about something like that happening… but when does an artist come and play a wedding? Really! Thanks to Jessica’s sister Carly who set up the surprise and my brother Blake for the last minute change to the have him play during the slideshow. It meant so much to us.

Of course we’re bias but we feel that there are a lot of unique things about the reception. From the format of the night (slideshow at the very start) to the music, the food, the decor. We’ve heard from so many people afterwards how great the food was and how they had so much fun. Maybe it was just me but you could really feel the love in the room. We spent a lot of time (Jessica and I) designing the look of the wedding. We wanted it to be unique to us and we also wanted it to be things we did on our own.

It turns out our favourite part of the day is the same! The anticipation and the final walking down the aisle / waiting for each other. Watching her walk down the aisle and watching me at the end of the aisle waiting with all of our friends and family surrounding us. All of the guests around us. The weather was perfect and the setting was incredible. It all came together perfectly and we both remember just feeling so content in those moments.

Manning Park Resort Wedding

Today's photographs of Kimberly + Dale: Manning Park Resort Wedding in British Columbia, are courtesy of Charlene Stam Photography and were submitted via Two Bright Lights. We are a Colorado wedding blog specializing in Summit County and the Vail Valley, however when I saw this set of images, I just had to share.

Destination Mountain Weddings, Elopements and More

This British Columbia mountain setting is absolutely breathtaking and looks very similar to the terrain here in Breckenridge. Perhaps this location would be good for engagement photos before your wedding in Breckenridge. Or, mountain lovers should just book a trip now and go there for their honeymoon. Either way, this set of peaks and valleys is on my bucket list of places to visit. Please contact us to learn more about how we can help you customize a package with qualified vendors and services that will save you time and money!

Kim & Dale are both avid outdoor adventurers. This much was clear from the moment we met for coffee to talk about the vision they had for their photos. I always try to encourage my couples to think outside the box and to choose themes or places that mean something to them to that they'll really get the most out of their pictures so I was pumped when they asked if I'd be willing to come along with them on one of their rock climbing excursions at the Harrison Bluffs in beautiful Agassiz, BC. They scaled the wall of a mountain during this session and so it was no surprise when they secured Manning Park Resort as their wedding venue.

Their first look was in the Alpine Meadows at the very top of a mountain! Kim hiked a good 5 minutes IN HER DRESS from the parking lot to their location for the first look, where we meandered off into formal photos as well. The ceremony took place on a lookout point with mountains, valleys and every shade of blue in the background. The wind blew softly and wild critters scurried around while they shared vows. It really was a most romantic day.
