Powder Skiing in Breckenridge

It's the last week of the ski season, so that means I'm looking back at one of my favorite clips from this past winter, A Powder Day on Peak 6 at the Breckenridge Ski Resort, a video by Stacy Sanchez. For now, we should all be happy for the snow that we got and the times we had on the mountain. But, we're definitely looking forward to next season already. There are so many lines just waiting for us to come back. There are many lifetimes of adventures at the world-class ski areas. And soon it will be hiking and biking season in the high hills.

Summer Weddings in the Colorado Mountains

Many say that you come for the winters and stay for the summers, and the cliche is true. The warmer, not-so-snowy months above 10,000 feet are downright glorious. Hot, sunny days, and afternoon thunderstorms are a welcome change to frigid winds and cold snow. Gardeners attempt to grow things in the few short weeks, and the tourists come back to explore all the mountains have to offer, besides skiing. One of those things includes having a wedding.

Bring the fam and invite the friends to join you for a few stellar days for a Breckenridge wedding adventure. There are no guarantees that it won't rain on your day, in fact, I'll be the first to tell you that it probably will rain. At some point. But, it usually blows out pretty quickly, so just have a back up plan and don't overthink it. Mountain Town: Breckenridge, Colorado [Video]

Mountain-Town-Breckenridge-Colorado.jpg

One of my goals with starting Summit Mountain Weddings was to share videos about the fabulous places, including my home, Mountain Town: Breckenridge, Colorado, which I made this video to show you a glimpse of what our Victorian mining abode is like. The Utes called this place home for many thousands of years, but when gold was mentioned at a bar in Kansas, the gold rush was on. Miners staked claims in the valleys and one even found the biggest chunk of gold ever found in Colorado, Tom's Baby. The downtown area is a historic set of buildings, while the ski runs of the Breckenridge Ski Resort loom over town. Chairlifts and the Breck Connect Gondola stretch from the valley floor to Peaks 8 and 9, eventually connecting with the highest chairlift in North America, the Imperial Chair. This flying couch brings you steps away from the summit of Peak 8.

Breckenridge is perfect for outdoor lovers, bridging the gap between posh mountain living and world-class skiing. Ask us about the many private luxury homes that scatter the hillsides, as well as non-traditional venues and outdoor spaces. We work with many vendors, venues and services to create custom wedding packages that end up saving you time and money. Contact us to learn more!

Breckenridge Winter Activity - Nordic Skiing

Lots of couples discover the Breckenridge Ski Resort and return to find lesser known gems, like today's feature about Horseshoe Gulch: Backcountry Nordic Skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado. Once you've become comfortably downhill and are looking for a way to ski while escaping the crowds, click in to some cross country gear and go exploring.

Wedding Planning, Venues and Vendors

Many of the hiking trails in the Town of Breckenridge are packed down by walkers, skiers and snowshoers during the winter time. Some of them are good for dogs and kids. If you'd like to know more about adding a little adventure to your destination wedding in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, please contact us to start the conversation. We work with numerous venues and vendors that we can then build into a custom wedding package for your gathering. And yes, we work with groups of all sizes and budgets.

2015 International Snow Sculpting Championships in Breckenridge, Colorado [Video]

One of my favorite events, the 2015 International Snow Sculpting Championships in Breckenridge, Colorado just happened. If you visit Breck in the next week or so, they'll still be up. Well, not all of them. One of them has already toppled over. These works of temporary snow art are finite in their existence, being stressed by wind, the weight of the snow and the sun. I love seeing the finished snow sculptures, and the kid's interactive piece is always a hit, but I've grown to appreciate the skill and teamwork that's required to bring these dreams to life. It makes me of how we are a team, and when working with brides, planners and their vendor teams, we also bring visions to life. We help brides live their dreams planning a wedding in the mountains. It's not easy, it's not done overnight, but look what you can create when you put some time and energy into creating something beautiful.

Here's the teaser video I shot before the snow sculpting teams had arrived. It also shows a glimpse of what summer offers, the Blue River next to the Riverwalk Center, and a memorial to the 10th Mountain Division, the Soldiers of the Summit who fought in WWII. These brave men were ... "originally constituted as a unique mountain warfare unit, the division was the only unit of its size in the U.S. Army to specialize in fighting in mountainous and arctic conditions."

Please contact us with any questions about the winter and summer events that happen in Breckenridge and the nearby mountain towns of Frisco, Copper Mountain, Dillon, Keystone, Silverthorne, Vail and Beaver Creek. We can help you figure out when there will be live music, farmer's markets and more. We understand that all of this adds up to your overall wedding week experience for your family and friends.

Using Hashtags at your Wedding

Hashtag-Infographic-for-Blog-Post.png

Hashtag Infographic for Blog Post This has been a big week for popular social media. Instagram jumped on the video bandwagon and Facebook started making hashtags searchable. Social media can work to your advantage for your big day. Think about being on your honeymoon and being able to instantly see how your wedding attendants enjoyed your wedding. Using hashtags has become increasingly popular at weddings that I've been to this year. Couples will post a sign at the entrance of the ceremony, reception, or have the hashtag somewhere on the program. I've even seen it on the save the dates and invitations so that the wedding party knows to use the same hashtag so the couple can have see the fun pictures from the bachelor and bachelorette party as well. It's a good idea to pick one early in planning and use it after your engagement through the big day.

A Keystone Ranch wedding last weekend came up with a very clever hashtag to use at their wedding: #teamchetlyn (the grooms name is Chet and the brides name Katelyn). Throughout the night, guests posted pictures using the hashtag, which gives the couple a nice way to quickly see images of their big day. Even the photographer, Kim with Bride-and-Joy Photography out of New York, joined in on the hashtag fun by posting one of her post-processed images after the wedding.

Here are some more examples of creative hashtags: #_____wedding (use your new last name!) #_____and_____wed #_____wedding13 (Use the couples initials and the year of the wedding to make it a little more unique) #braggaboutit (Bragg is the couples last name)
