Silverthorne Pavilion Wedding

When the snow melts from the high peaks, it eventually makes it to the Blue River flowing outside this venue in today's post featuring Melissa + Dustin: Colorado Mountain Wedding at the Silverthorne Pavilion, with images courtesy of Narrative Imagery. There are actually a couple of options for outside ceremonies, one being on the lawn facing west, the other being closer to the river bank and trees. A short walk away and you have a beautiful pavilion that's perfect for a destination wedding.

Summit County Wedding Packages

Breckenridge, Colorado is pretty fabulous for weddings, but there are other mountain towns in Summit County, and you can go down the rabbit hole finding the right mix of vendors with a venue that's available on the weekend you want. It all takes time, and since we've gotten to know all these places with 20 years of experience and over 1,000 weddings under our belt, we are a great local contact and we've created this site, the original wedding blog for the Rocky Mountains, that's designed to help couples, planners and families create magnificent mountain weddings while providing creative resources. Please contact us to learn more about creating a custom package for you.

This is Melissa & Dustin's Silverthorne Mountain Wedding. This was a very DIY kind of wedding. Melissa is super crafty, and Dustin can execute any craft idea and task Melissa may of had. All of the bouquets, center pieces and other details were all made by the couple. The only thing they didn't make were the cake and cupcakes. This was a great wedding and it was so much fun to be apart of. All of Melissa & Dustin's family pitched in on wedding day to set up all of the tables, candy table, and the ceremony site.

[ Vendor ] Studio Kiva Photography // Winter Wedding Photo Shoots at the Ice Castles In Silverthorne: Part Two

A blue Toyota Tacoma with a rack on it pulls up in front of the barn and out pops a blonde girl I know that shoots weddings in the mountains around Breckenridge and Summit County, Colorado. I  talked with Breckenridge-based photographer Katie Girtman of Studio Kiva and she told me she's wrapping up the winter wedding season with a bunch of new photographs from what she's calling "Adventure Wedding Photo Sessions."    You can see Part One of this two part series by clicking here.

Some of Katie's adventure weddings this past season included downhill / at-the-resort skiing, dog sledding, horseback riding, and at the new Ice Castles in Silverthorne.   She told me that "many couples are finding that they would like to add some fun and adventure into their wedding day as well as doing some of the traditional things. This makes their photos stand out and be different than the more traditional ways of the past. After all, they're coming out to the mountains for the beauty and what the mountains have to offer, so what a great way to have some beauty and fun all in one."

We talked more about how important it was to try to find vendors that know the venues and areas intimately and can produce the best results.  Katie says that, "this is where a photographer can really help make this day happen. We feel a big part of our job is to figure out and plan ahead of time, to get out there and scout for the great locations for photographing on the wedding day.  This is how we ran into the Ice Castles in Silverthorne, by thinking what a great backdrop this would be for some of our winter weddings. We are always striving for finding new locations and adventures that are off-the-beaten path.  As an artist, this is our job to think outside the box."

We talked about all the fun ideas we could throw together for some adventurous couples.  Whatever your mountain passion is, we are the real mountain wedding pros that will follow you around mountains, down rivers and on trails that cross our alpine majesty.  Katie finishes by saying, "wanting something a little different? Couples these days, want to show who they are as a couple with there personality and styles. We are seeing this with where their having the personalized wedding ceremonies, styles of flowers, dresses, and locations they pick. What better way to show it than photographing and documenting the day with a little adventure?  We would love to help with your style of wedding!"

I'd say that's a good idea.  Give Katie a buzz and tell her you saw the Ice Castles blog on Summit Mountain Weddings and that you want to plan an adventure wedding photo session!

[ Vendor ] Studio Kiva Photography // Winter Wedding Photo Shoots at the Ice Castles In Silverthorne: Part One

This week, we'll be sharing two couples photographed at this winter wedding wonderland in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  Breckenridge-based photographer Katie Girtman of Studio Kiva, took her destination wedding clients to the Silverthorne Ice Castles for a few photos among the towering ice structures.  This surprise sensation thrust tiny Silverthorne into the spotlight as the ice sculptures were seen on various media channels, in thousands of pictures and even a music video.

Destination weddings in the winter just got an added bonus.  You always had the Ice Sculpting Championships in Breckenridge, but those only last for a month, so only a few weddings get to enjoy the scene.  This option extends the unique winter landscape that will surely make your friends and family's jaw drop when they see them.

Katie says, "It's the new hot thing!  Wedding Dresses in all colors are becoming more and more popular every day."  Exactly.  Sometimes, you just have to go with your gut, make your own style and show your personality through your choice of wedding dress, location, and even style of photography.  Ask us how we can help you plan the winter wedding of your dreams.

{ Real Mountain Wedding } Ashley + Marc married on the shore of Lake Dillon. Reception at the Silverthorne Pavilion.

I'll let you in on a secret.  Lake Dillon isn't really a lake.  It's actually a reservoir, containing the drainages of three streams.  The Snake comes from Keystone, the Blue comes from Breckenridge, and Ten Mile Creek travels from Copper Mountain.  Buildings were moved, houses were relocated, and the area that is filled with water is what you see.

You can kayak on this lake, mountain bike and trail run on the trails near the edge or even take a water taxi or create a pontoon parade like we did.

If you need an invite to Pinterestsend us a tweet and we'll hook you up!  It's a great way to create inspiration boards to plan your wedding, and we've even started a board dedicated to the guys, part of our Groom-er outreach.  What's Groom-er?  It's inspiration boards, blogs and resources for the the bros.  Groom-er.  Because it's not all about her.

Longtime Breckenridge local Gretchen Abernathy has married countless numbers of couples over the years in the various venues and outside wedding ceremony locations in Summit County.

Molly from Cedar House Photography writes:

"Ashley & Marc are old friends from college – Ashley & I met singing in an acappella group!  Their wedding was on a gorgeous fall day overlooking Lake Dillon in Silverthorne, and I was so, so excited to be there.  Not only did I get to watch my beautiful friend walk down the aisle to marry a kind, handsome man, I also got to reconnect with some long-lost college friends :)  The weather was perfect, the whole day was so relaxed, and I was thrilled to be a part of it."

The Silverthorne Pavillion was the decorated using a DIY effort, which turned out great.  Candles, and a few Aspen branches were just the right touch.

{ Winter Engagement } David + Murielle at the Ice Castles in Silverthorne, Colorado //

New to Summit County, Colorado this year are the Ice Castles in Silverthorne.  Located just north of the Silverthorne Pavillion, this unique setting is created by hand by "Brent Christensen, Ice Castle creator, started experimenting with icicles to create a large ice formation in his front yard. His children called it “an ice castle,” and the name stuck."

I write an article on Examiner.com, as I have been selected as the Breckenridge Wedding Planner Examiner, and Kim Larson of Life is Art Photo saw my post and decided it would be a great fit for her clients.  We appreciate Kim giving us a shout out at the end of her blog, and hope any other readers, photographers or couples that gain inspiration from this blog will share their photos for us to share in the future!

The following text is from Kim's blog.  Please mention this blog if you give her a shout!

"Dayvid and Murielle were engaged on December 28th at a Denver Nuggets game, while the entire crowd watched on the jumbotron. And what better way to compliment a winter engagement than some winter engagement photos too! All photos were taken at the Ice Castles in the rocky mountain town of Silverthorne, Colorado. The session started off during the day, but we later returned for some nighttime photos in the illuminated castles as well. It may have been icy, but these photos are steamy! ;)

I’d also like to thank Petal and Bean, a fine floral design studio in Breckenridge, for giving us the heads up on the Ice Castles this year!

Dayvid and Murielle – thank you for making the trip to Silverthorne! It was great getting to know you both and to hear your wonderful story!

~keep smiling!
Kim"

[PLANNING] Time management and problem solving when planning your Breckenridge, Colorado wedding.

IMGP2699.jpg

You've found this blog probably because you are searching for someone to help you plan your wedding or provide a particular service.  We understand that while wedding planning can be very fun, interesting, and entertaining, it is literally a second job.  So, one of the first things you need to do is to determine how much time you can realistically devote to figuring out all the details and following up with all the vendors.  Quickly, time management becomes a priority.

Did you know that wedding planning averages 250 hours while the typical engagement is 16 months long?  In my opinion, that's enough time to overthink and rush things that aren't necessarily that important at that moment. Certain things need to be figured out first, while others can wait.  We'll introduce a few sources for handy checklists and timelines very soon!

Breckenridge wedding planner | Summit Mountain Weddings | Breckenridge and Keystone event design | photo[AllysiaAngus]

All of these new projects take time and energy, but are a lot of fun to research.   But, don't get stuck on one look, color or style of decor.  Your first idea probably won't be the one you'll stick with in the end, so go with the flow and enjoy the creative process because tomorrow you might find something else that will take you in a whole different direction.

There is also the budget that cannot be ignored.  We suggest having a rough idea of what you'd like to spend, but have a minimum and maximum to guide you along and to have some room for flexibility.  This allows for creative ways to stretch and maximize your dollars.

The real trick is making time for it all.  There are many resources, also literally at your fingertips, these days, and this is only one of them, but what makes this site different is that it's the only online resource dedicated to helping families, planners and vendors connect to plan weddings and special events in Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Dillon, Frisco, Keystone and Silverthorne, Colorado.

After buying flowers from countless distributors over the years, we have sourced not only the best flowers, but now know who the best vendors are for our local area that are able to complete the dream team you're looking for.  So, when it comes to your wedding, start to think about what time you have, what priorities you have, and who's going to help you with things get hectic. Half the fun is the imagining all the different possibilities that you could have for your wedding.  You've got the mountains already in mind, and Summit County is a world class year-round destination that is undeniably beautiful, family-friendly and filled with all sorts of activities for all kids of all ages.

We'll be exploring all the different venues, vendors and local attractions that are perfect for weddings, special events, vow renewals and elopements in the Rockies.  This last photo shows the kids at our wedding reception at the Carter Park Pavilion.  We knew we wanted our wedding to be (1) in the mountains and have (2) a lake experience with (3) lots of kids while (4) the family band played.  Those elements were important to us.  What's important to you?
